Next Elite update

Q. Any chance of being able to change the colours of the HUD display?

A. Not at the moment as it’s a significant amount of work.

Q&A Summary [by Cmdr Barking Mad]
-----------

SIGH, Frontier has used the same excuse for YEARS. Every time we get the same answer.

It's dishonest, because multiple custom HUD colour combinations look fine.

This is a Top Requested Feature so Frontier shouldn't neglect this for 3+ years!

It would be great if they could even just convert the hardpoint text into icons as an option so we can reduce the clutter.

Someone mentioned this in another post and it wasn’t until I read it that I realised how much it actually blocks our view of the great things out there

I think the real problem is that all the HUD colour changers also change the neutral / friendly / enemy ships on the radar (to a lesser or greater degree) which Fdev probably can't allow on an official thing, and it seems like the UI was baked in early and deep, so even having different designs is probably something that's not going to happen any time soon.

Course, if they allowed mods we'd probably have new designs for every ship in a multiplicity of colours by now. But they don't - so we haven't.

It's clearly super hard coded.

They haven't worked out how to sell customisation, and not annoy all the people using the current hack.

Once they figure out the PR for the second thing, they'll get right on this.

"Military" and "vibrant" HUD themes coming soon(TM)

I use Corn Silk Blue<?> as my HUD, super chill on the eyes, esp. in VR but if Fdev released an official version keeping the radar colours correct, I'd buy it for a quid.

Hi all,
Does anyone else think that the next update should also update the HUD interface to have less cartoon type writing and bubbles etc and change to something more belivable for future space flight? Not just talking a colour change like people have changed to blue, but something like thinner lines or arrow markers instead of circles. Or at least have an few options in the menu to cycle through.
Im thinking that elite want to be the closest real life space sim around, yet the HUD seems a bit stuck in the 1990's not the year 3304.
Maybe a quick win for frontier.
Hoping to get enought interest from people in this to make frontier consider this.

Im just sick of flying towards big orange circles and big stupid writing. It blocks alot of the view.

Thanks

Artistic judgements are subjective.
FD have to make things that satisfy many different Cmdrs. These things are arrived at in group consensus and agreed compromises.
I personally would not change a thing except to add in-game colour changing.

Widen your field of view? Get VR?

Its a colour palette issue in my belief because FD figure that folks would complain about losing red/green bad/good.

I feel like the HUD is fine. I don't see any cartoonish writing but then again I think I'm on the younger side of the player base... What I'd like more is different HUD layouts for each manufacturer or faction.
