Next gen console update for PS5 And Xbox???

They still have the old planetary generation technology, no atmospheric planets that rely on that feature, so yes a big update. That's why they are on 3.8 and not 4.0. There are posts years old talking about said compatibility update, so I wouldn't think they would be anywhere near similar considering the number of updates we have had since then. It was stated at the time it was a QOL update, so not an update to the base engine or anything like that, just little stuff shared between all platforms.
So Why keep it around d in the firstplace ? Not to mention the borderline fraudulent game description in the digital marketplace.Honesthy, they should just kill it off for console and be done with it, once and for all.Since they clearly have no intention of doing g anything with it.

Because there are many people who still play it even after 8 years. There is still gameplay for many thousands of hours . So just because there isn't any "new stuff " now doesn't mean there isn't stuff to do. I'm still upset when they dropped us 2-3 years ago but that doesn't mean I want to stop people enjoying the game. I'm not on too much nowadays but I've only just got the power play bobblehead and the only on I have left I won't get because it's xeno combat .

Because people have paid for it and it still works?

Yep, funny thing is, there are people who have entire youtube channels based on playing "dead" games, that is games with no listed players on Steam but are still purchasable, games and servers can hang around a long time after everyone leaves, with full descriptions and detailed stories and introductions on their Steam page, so attacking FDEV because the Steam Store still has details of the game is bizarre. there are literally thousands of games deader than ED, deader than dead, on Steam, but then here we are, on the ED forum pages complaining because a game that still has a decent player base even though it's not getting updated but still gets emergency updates just exists on Steam.

Indeed but as many of keep saying and hoping for, it would be "nice" IF Frontier could inject "some" extra life back into the game on consoles! πŸ˜―πŸ˜‚πŸ©²πŸ˜€πŸ€˜πŸ€ž ...

Of course we most want and surely the "next gen" consoles can and would easily run the full "live" game, 4.0 and Odyssey, which many of us still have our wallets open, "ready and waiting" for, but ANY new content for Elite on consoles would be SOMETHING and surely isn't too much to ask for?! πŸ˜―πŸ˜‚πŸ©²πŸ˜€πŸ€˜πŸ€ž ...

One of the oddest things about Odyssey and the consoles, is that Frontier confirmed they had no plans for native support of the PS 5 and Xbox Series X long before they officially dropped Odyssey on the previous generation of consoles.
Indeed while they have released and continue to release other games on "next gen", including several running on the same engine as Elite, "just" not Elite itself! πŸ˜―πŸ˜‚πŸ©² .

Which really could and should change at this stage! πŸ˜―πŸ˜‚πŸ˜€πŸ€˜πŸ€ž .

I very much doubt anything else is running on the same engine as Elite, it might have the same name, but the versions will be immensely different, the Cobra Engine for Elite has no doubt been customised specifically to run Elite.

Fdev insistance not to do next gen was an easy get out clause "ohhhh so sorry couldn't get it to work on last gen" ( where everyone knew that last gen wouldn't work) . Made it pretty obvious from the begining that Fdev couldn't wouldn't or be bothered to . And it was called by many console players about a year before Fdev finally releneted and spoke the the consoles . My own opinion of course

They released a new paintjob for the Anaconda, thuse mudding the waters, yet again. They say one thing ,then out of the blue, do the exact opposite?
That was a "huge" addition! πŸ˜―πŸ˜‚πŸ©² .

Well seriously, I guess that it was "something", however cosmetics really don't count as new content, even ONE new ship, the new SRV and or some new CGs and storylines WOULD actually count as meaningful new additions to the console version of the game, even IF it was "only" for the "next gen" console versions of the game (while right now, there are actually no different on PS5 Vs PS4, other than the PS5 version apparently being less stable than the PS4 version, likely because it's running in compatibility mode!)...

But given that it is "only" a cosmetic addition, it was probably added by mistake and they were too lazy to remove it!
πŸ˜―πŸ˜‚πŸ©²

But anyway, it is a tiny new thing for people especially into paint jobs, I guess πŸ€”πŸ˜€πŸ€˜ .

They would make a lot more money if they would just put in a little effort into consoles. But, I guess they don't need our money, so to he'll with them.

I suspect (no evidence to back it up) that all devs that did work on console elite either got moved to other projects or redundancy.
There's literally no one left that could work on legacy.
I would imagine that they're quite risk averse now, so chancing spending limited funding on a title where a sizable proportion of the player base left vowing never to buy another fdev title ever again, would be a non starter.

Interestingly if they ran another kickstarter to develop the live engine on console, or even a console specific title using legacy engine seperate from live (like world of tanks have 2 versions etc) I would chuck a few quid at that.

I can't believe I live in a world where ship skins are considered content. I don't even consider new ships content. New visual shapes that do the same thing but OP is not content. If anything, it's degrading the existing content. There's a reason CIG keeps releasing new ships, not only because they want to sell them for cash, but because they don't actually have to make more game for them. Suckers will keep hitting the same bugs and lack of gameplay in different looking outfits deluded into thinking 'Hey! Something's happening'.

This tends to suggest developers have been able to edit their pages since 2013.

Would they have something similar (ability to modify the store blurb) for the console stores?
You would think that they would do so πŸ˜―πŸ˜‚πŸ˜€πŸ€˜πŸ€ž ...

Indeed thinking about it, especially for online games if and when they haven't had a patch or expansion in, let's say a year, the store should automatically add a tag, "Game not currently in active development.", or similar...

While when Devs are "done" with a game and especially if they intend to "abandon" a game, they should be required to add a note that they've released the last patch or piece of content to it and won't be working on it anymore! πŸ˜―πŸ˜‚πŸ©²πŸ˜€πŸ€˜πŸ€ž .

Indeed some developers put up blog posts about "ALL the things that they're going to add to their game!" but never touch them again!

For example, for the console releases of Rebel Galaxy Outlaw, which released after the PC version and were still missing features from it, they added some stuff to it, had posts about adding "much" more the following year, but then COVID happened and they disappeared! - As said, they should have "at least" had to add a note to the store that they were abandoning the game and it, "would have been nice", if they'd written a final blog post about why they were or even "just" that they were "finished" with the game! πŸ˜―πŸ˜‚πŸ©²πŸ˜€πŸ€˜πŸ€ž .
