NIS - when NVIDIA fixed what FDev wont.

Today NVIDIA released new driver with new image scaling algorithm - NIS (Nvidia Image Scaling)
It's a bit simplier than DLSS and more compare to AMD's FSR, but guys... FSR image is complete trash and still cant give me stable 60
But NIS can!!!

Now every GeForce owner can play Odyssey smooth while waiting for DLSS
You can enable it in NV control panel, no matter what game you wanna play.

Now we can enjoy Odyssey finally with 60 FPS!

What are your GFX settings in game - ie what Rez, Scaling settings etc.
I'll try and give it a go later, see how it works out.

Cheers.

And Nvidia had to hotfix the driver after just a few hours, because the feature didn't work initially :)

Ooopsie.

Anyway, i'm pretty much against using image scaling. Devs really need to make sure their games run well at the resolutions the cards should be able to handle.

FD still need more optimisations, that's for sure, and they are working on it, so not sure why OP said "won't", because that implies FD are not working on it, which flies in the face of what they are saying and doing.

As i've said elsewhere, i'm now getting decent framerates at settlements with a 2060 (even those with fires!), although i hope that 2060 isn't required or needs to become the standard for Odyssey, otherwise a lot of people will be left behind.

The image you posted looks like complete trash, too. Pixel jaggies everywhere, exactly the same problem that FSR has. Upscaling is not a solution because it ruins readability of the HUD in cockpits. Sorry, but there are no miracles here, a proper fix can only come from FDev.

Upscaling is a bandaid by Nvidia and AMD to make up for the elimination of SLI/Crossfire, while players play on ever bigger Monitors. FHD is pretty much gone by, 1440p is mainstream, 4K is coming up more and more, a few even want 8K. Graphics cards can't keep up with that, SLI/Crossfire is gone, so upscaling becomes mainstream. Saves R&D cost on actually making hardware that is capable enough to deliver playable FPS.

I think upscaling is a trade off when your graphic card cannot process the native resolution smoothly.
No matter how nicely it looks, it's per-frame quality is definitely inferior than native one.

BTW my personal experience is this game heat up CPU much hotter than GPU : (
After I called my laptop vendor replaced the entire heatsink module and TIM, CPU side still hit 90C+ at some ground bases, while my 2070m GPU always 65C.

I don't want to offend anyone by saying this but why should Nvidia be held responsible for Frontiers mistakes. Nvidia shouldn't ever have to fix a companies mistake, they are just a manufacturer that tries to keep up with current technology, NOT cater to a specific Company.
It's truly quite sad that a manufacture has to step in to cater a Company.

Do I have to change my neighbors childes diapers?
Please I'm not trying to offed any Commanders...o7

Everything maxed out except Ambient Occlusion (it's on medium) and shadows (both on high)
Ingame scaling disabled
Resolution from nvidia list - 1709x960 (it appears in settings after enabling NIS, my native is 1440p)

I agree that it's far from good, but man. 60 FPS soap is better than 30 FPS soap.

They "working" on it ~7 month. too much for just a fix. Dont you think?
With NIS i've seen stable 60 at station lounge fist time since Odyssey release.

Did they code either of them though? Especially NIS, since right now it's enabled in the drivers and not even the game itself.

Fair point.

FSR they definitely did, since that's more an AMD API and doesn't even need a specific driver or graphics card (Pascal-based Nvidia cards will work with FSR), but I don't know about NIS. 🤷‍♀️

So you switched to 1709x960p to get 60 fps? While you are normally running on 2560*1440? Then you think Nvidia performed a miracle?

You just set the driver to calculate 1.6 million pixels and not the original 3.6 million pixels. So this IS a smart thing to do when going into on-foot mode and get higher FPS. To credit Nvidia for this is silly.

(btw I play on 3440*1440 flying and on-foot 2560x1080 (rx 590))
