NMS got me thinking... how in the world would I utilize Elite Feet with a HOTAS!?

No Man's Sky does a terrific job with going from Piloting to Space Legs, but obviously the flying in NMS isn't even remotely the same as in Elite Dangerous, where I prefer to fly with my HOTAS.
It got me thinking... if Elite Feet did eventually get here... I'm not sure if using a HOTAS to walk around would be very immersive, especially in VR.
Make no mistake, I have no issues switching to mouse and keyboard or a gamepad once I land, but in VR, you can't really use a keyboard, can you?

Yeah, just take your hands off the hotas, and put em on the KB+M you can do this in VR easily enough once you get the hang of it

How about us console players who can only have either Pad or HOTAS hooked up to actually play the game? I prefer to play with HOTAS on my Xbox, and I can only use the pad in that case for Comms.

I bet it'll be like controlling the SRV, but with legs instead...

You could have a controller pad of some kind near by to use with elite feet. Or use the keyboard and mouse or use something else.

I will likely use my Xbox controller to see how it works.

PCdawg here. Joypad beats kb/m anyday in 3rd person games with that sweet incremental movement. (Oh did I mention I want spacelegs to be switchable between 1st and 3rd person view. Take note FD or I'll get cranky. Yes I know I'm not a lifer but I did shell out 26 euros for this game which I've played 800hrs since february. I have rights!!1!)
Where was I? Oh yes. IF (when) space(and ground)legs comes I sure would enjoy being able to use the pad AND my hotas.
(I've had the thought that if I'd played with m/kb or pad instead of the lovely hotas I'd be frustrated with ED just like some other loons. Hear me? It's not the game that's faulty, it's your controller.)

I suppose switching between hotas and kbm could be a little disorienting to find the keyboard but I don’t look at my hands when I play anyway. It’s a little frightening how my hand just rests on wasd even at work.

Touch control movement of Lone Echo makes all other zero-g space legs mechanics depressing in VR. It’s the benchmark.

For flat screen... eh standard FPS fare should work.

I have a chair mounted HOTAs and I use a wireless keyboard. I cut out small pieces of stick on velcro and stuck them on important keys. Ctrl+V, O7 ect. Now it's no problem to find the keys I need without looking. I'm figuring I could do the same with the WASD keys and make a mouse platform for my chair if I didn't use the Xbox controller.

For 2d, just switch back to kbm. For VR, I'm sure Frontier can devise some pretty cool controls setup for the vive and oculus controllers.

Of course you can.. ever hear of "touch typing"? Do words like "home row" mean anything to you?
Ever notice "J" has a little bump on it? That's so you can simply touch the keyboard and know where your fingers are... assuming you actually know typing skills and don't watch your fingers the entire time.

But... HOTAS would potentially work just fine in VR as well... depending on your S and T... I use a Logitech 3d Pro Extreme abd CH Pro Throttle... so... push forward, walk forward, pull back, walk back, push left, strafe left, push right, strafe right, twist left, turn left, twist right, turn right. Look up/down/left/right on the analog hat on the throttle. Finger trigger for weapon filre, thumb trigger to jump... still have plenty of buttons left to bind to anything else I might need.

I'd wager I'd spend 20-30 minutes in a Tutorial scenario fiddling with my keybinds until I got them just the way I like them - and backing them up to a flash drive, but it would work quite well.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

By the time we have space legs in Elite we'll all be wearing sensory implants and HOTAS and KB/Mouse will be a thing of the past.

I actually have enough buttons on my hotas that I think this wouldn't be a problem. 2 directional pads are all you really need, and I don't see why that would be less immersive than using a keyboard and mouse.

I would expect control options for space legs to be comparable to those for SRVs.

There should be options to control the sensitivity of any motion controls and I do not see "Teleport motion" as being an option, click and path following might be though.

Keyboard and mouse may be the historical norm for FPS gameplay but there have been good examples of other control systems being used effectively for such gameplay.
