No 3d Accelerated Display Mode Available

I have been trying to launch the game and I keep getting this error message:

No 3D Accelerated display mode available. Please check that your display driver is up to date.

I installed the latest nvidia drivers and still get the message. Other games seem unaffected. I just ran SC and MSFS with no problem.

Any ideas?

Well, that's a bit better.

Restart the computer, see what happens.

That smells of a laptop. Check in the various control panels and Lenovo's system setup (or whatever that's called) that you're actually using the 3060 and not the built-in graphics of the CPU. IIRC, that system control can switch the GPU on (and off) when it detects a GPU program being activated.

If your machine is a laptop, are you running plugged in or on battery power? I know my laptop (MacBook Pro) switches to integrated graphics instead of the dedicated GPU if it’s on battery.

Other than that, I think there was an NVidia driver update recently … you could try switching to the “studio” driver to get an older stable version rather than the latest “bleeding edge” game-ready variant?

Might help / might not … just some thoughts: best of luck!! o7

No, it's a desktop.
ED was fine a couple of days ago, and I didn't make any changes. There was a Windows update last night, but my other games are fine...

Hmm … IIRC Elite use DirectX 11 (not 12) so could be worth checking if the Windows update did anything in that area?

Actually … that’s kinda worrying … my Windows 11 updated as I shut it down last night and I’m using a 3070 …

That CPU has an integrated graphics chip, so make sure that Elite is actually using the 3060.

It seems I wasn't clear enough. Start the game, go to Options -> Graphics -> Display -> Adapter and make sure that it uses the 3060

Ok, after reading the original post again, the above is a no go, so you'll have to try what babelfish suggested:

You could try to disable the IGP in BIOS or device manager, see if it helps.

Someone had a similar issue before. The fix seemed to be going into the Nvidia control panel and changing refresh rate between 59hz and 60hz or vice versa

Well, now it works, and I have no idea what fixed it.

Thanks to everyone for their advice!!

Carlos

Glad we could help. oh hang on, I didn't do anything.....used to be a PC tech and this happened all the time. Go to customers house, turn on misbehaving PC, works perfectly this time, customer overflowing with thanks and praise....hang on, I didn't do anything!

without looking

it would NOT be a surprise nor even close to the first time for MS to do a graphics driver update that disabled other devices.
fixing it on the same day is expected as they have done in the past.

IF.

as a tech, there is a reason I disable auto update and do manual checks instead.
allowing MS to do auto-updates, unchecked is like writing a check to your local IT guy/store for no reason.

if it's working why update it?
so many see this as bad advice, I see it as thanks for more money for ignoring my advice.
