No actual islands/maps

One of the things that I loved about JPOG was how you had the entire island to work with, and even though I like the five islands idea for the campaign I loved the island generator at well, it made it so now two parks were the same. Unfortunately watching this video at the 12 minute mark, it seems they'll only use the islands as a way to determine the map layout, without ever actually having a full island to work with. I'm fairly disappointed with that though happy with what I've seen overall. How do the rest of you feel about it?

I wish we had a whole island but the islands are quite large. This is a game. The islands in JPOG were quite small. I imagine the biggest play area will be on Sorna and Nublar.

maybe that could be a feature of the sandbox mode IF they decide to include sandbox. But to be honest, I like the idea of using the actual islands as game maps

I mean, how can you really build Jurassic Park if you don't build it on Nublar?

still wish we could use the whole islands. Whould be great to use all parts of the island for the parks but i think we'll get plenty of space as you said but I think Matanceros might have the smallest playable area with perhaps Pena?

one thing I would like to see is if more of the island could be opened up to build on but separated off for island utilities. Like I don't really want my power stations to be next to my guest attractions if I'm honest - they can be off in the jungle somewhere else. Same with the ACU, Expedition centre, fossil research etc - none of those buildings are guest interactive, so I'd like to place them as far away from the actual guest areas of the park as possible

could even have a separate monorail station stop there - so have a guest area of the island and a staff area of the island. That way you wouldn't have to connect pathways between to the two and have guests randomly walking past the ACU

Probably won't happen, we're too far along but i think it'd be pretty nice

I agree, but there's still that great feeling of freedom from having access to the island, even if they just have large parts inaccessible due to terrain, with some coastal areas you could use like in a game such as Tropico, and for a full sandbox mode It'd be great to have another island generator to represent new park locations around the world while having the limited maps for the campaign. I do think having just limited maps could work in some regards, especially if there's ever a mainland representation. But being isolated to an Island was part of what made it so unique, that this is an oasis of long-lost life separate from the world. I'm also a bit concerned having heard that the largest map size will be 800,000x800,000 meters, which is a lot until you work it out and see that it's less than a square kilometer, and about 1/4 the size of central park (though I do realize many things in these games aren't to scale)

A random island generator would be wonderful for after-completion of the main game, but not sure how easy / difficult that would be to set up. As long as we get the rumored free-build mode (like Site-B) and we can use Isla Sorna, I’ll be happy. From the sounds of it, it’s easily the largest island in the game.

Ridiculous limitation, so utterly pointless to cut off parts of the Island.

I want to build my park spread out with a separate area for utilities away from the tourist block.

Can't do that now. I don't see the point of limiting it. We should be allowed to build where we like over the whole Island.

This is honestly the most disappointing thing yet because it's so unnecessary.

one thing to mention on this is that there could quite easily be a park expansion feature in game or added later potentially, where you can buy permission to build on more land, thus opening up the map

That would actually be a very nice addition from a management point of view. I know a lot of other build management games have done this very thing and I'd be all for the restriction if I then also had the financial trade off of "do I get more land now or do I wait and get another dinosaur now"

Isla Nublar has a surface of 77 square kilometers (30 square miles). There's no way we could have such huge maps unless they use procedural generation like Elite Dangerous for entire planets.

The devs said the max map size is bigger than Planet Coaster. That's pretty big to me. I'd like to be able to build on the entire island or choose a location sans the mountains which would be too costly to terraform.

The red marked area is the max size in PC. Disneyland in Anaheim is 85 acres (34 ha) (expanding to about 100 acres with Star Wars Land). 100 acres = 0.4046 km2 or 0.156 square miles

Thank you! I don't have planet coaster so I don't have a good sense of their map size, I'm just used to JPOG. I'm okay with not having to-scale sizes, that'd be insane. I'm more miffed at only having maps with the terrain just being ways to hide the view, as opposed to actual islands (meaning the build-able terrain is limited by the mountains and then the ocean) so that it at least feels more authentic, that I don't feel like I'm artificially being limited in the extent of land I can build on. But I guess we'll see. We've only seen one part of one map so far after all.

That's a pretty good map size. I have Planet Coaster and they provide you with plenty of room.

The map size seems large... But its still pointless.

The tutorial Island had a lake in the centre which was blocked from building. Why? It would make for van interesting exhibit, a viewing platform out of the lake with s Baryonyx or something in it.

I don't buy that because the Islands are large they need reducing in size.

Plenty of games nowadays have huge, expansive maps with few issues.

It's a terrible design choice to limit the area we can build. I hope they change it.

You clearly haven't played planet coaster, once the guest count goes above a certain number the games frame rate starts to go down.
On mid - low end systems this is very taxing and at one point the game slows to a crawl, on high end machines it's less noticeable.
I'm sure the biggest map area in JW:E will be big enough and will be much larger than the biggest map in JPOG.

so true we still have plenty of space to build on and after all we'll have 6 islands in the game so probably lots of area to expand your park

we've only seen the build limits on the first island - aka tutorial island. Even if we know all the maps are locked to buildable areas there's no telling what sizes we'll still have to play with come later islands
