No build time limit after primary port?

Correct.

The purpose of the time limit is to stop people claiming a system and then wandering off leaving it permanently unusable (and potentially therefore blocking off a route where it's the bottleneck).

Once you've got the first starport built, the system is populated and can be used as a springboard by everyone, so there's no need to limit how long you can take over building it up further.

HURRAY!

Build an outpost first folks, then a full starport at your leisure.
I built an outpost but it doesn't give me any system points so I can't build any type of starport in any of the orbital locations. My only option is to build a surface settlement and hope that gives me a point, enabling me to build a starport.

How does it work in a system with no landable planets? Do you have to build a second outpost to get a point? (I built one outpost and have zero points)

Update: other information seems to suggest my outpost should have given me some points. Maybe this is a "wait for the tick" situation?

I've built an industrial outpost. No idea what to build next? Do I go for security? Should I go for security? Does it matter? Any thoughts?

You've also got the various "installation" non-dockable options, which I think give points as well, and are cheaper than a full outpost.
Are there any benefits of having those? I previously wondered what their point was in the game (unlike megaships) but even more so now in the context of colonisation. If it's just to get points (yet another in-game currency it seems) that would be incredibly lame.

Note - I claimed a dull system without any landable planets so am still in two minds whether to pursue building or just abandoning it.

My worry is, if we build an outpost first, then all the mats for a big starport will have to be delivered, in a medium ship?

I don't think they're the same undockable ones found in previously inhabited systems.

They, as well as the surface depots, list the largest pads as medium, while just the satellite and relay installations have no landing pads listed.

I perhaps made the small mistake of starting off with a Coriolis station, which requires quite a bit more materials. Oh well, next time I'll start smaller.
Same - especially as I'm solo-ing it. Still, 30% there so should be possible (and hopefully worth it in the long run!)

Well, it would just be a way to do something to boost the amounts of CMM composites that are produced in the bubble. It's a small thing, but it's something we can do ourselves at least.
