No Display in Rift after Win 10 Reinstall - Any Ideas?

Win 10 updates failed to install for many months, and as all workarounds failed, I made a clean reinstall of Win 10 a few weeks ago as I'm sitting out the Beta period anyway.

I wanted to setup the Rift today, but I'm completely stuck as none of the solutions I've found on Reddit/Oculus forum or any other page did work.

The issue:
- At the end of the setup, when the HMD needs to be tracked, display remains completely blank
- Sound does work as I tested in the sound settings
- I have all connections green in the Oculus software (all sensors and the HMD)
- Occasionally though, upon restart I get an 'Hardware problem detected' message advising to check connections/cables
- I have the orange light on as normal, if I cover the sensor it turns off as normal

Things I tried:
- I have the GeForce 388.59 driver (same as before, but I also reinstalled it just in case)
- I tried a number of USB port connection combinations
- Reinstall Oculus software and repair patch also done
- I did check, connect and reconnect the plug on the HMD
- I also checked other plug combinations of the monitor and the HMD into the GPU
- I even updated the USB drivers using software from the MSI homepage (for the MSI mobo)
- Yes, I also restarted both the Oculus App and the rig a number of times

Worth mentioning:
- Since the Win 10 reinstall, I did buy a new monitor, keyboard and mouse, the rest of the config remained the same
- The Rift was properly stored in its box below my desk, the furniture was moved a bit as some repairs were done in the room, but all cables and everything looks intact --> highly unlikely that it is a hardware issue

Any idea what I could try next would be most appreciated...

Edit: just realized it should be a white light, not yellow... still completely stuck.

Not enough info about your set up optimal_909 to be able to solve the issue.

Notice you did a Win 10 re-install, but still having problems. Maybe you chose the keep user data option?

All I can say is if you are getting hardware warnings (particularly USB) and Win 10 update fails then this can be and often is a sign of corrupted Win 10 system files, particularly stuff like net framework and directX. Unfortunately, there's no easy way to tell. You can follow the instructions in the link below to check and repair any corrupted system files. It's a fairly simple process and shouldn't cause any problems if you follow the instructions:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb...er-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system

That will tell you if there are problems simmering in the background and may even solve them. However, if the problems persist then you may just have to bite the bullet and do a clean install of Win 10 OS (with delete all files option selected) and then reinstall:

- Win 10 OS.
- Geforce Nvidia latest driver for your card.
- Oculus Home.
- Voice Attack and any HCS voice pack (if you use them).
- Steam (only if you use it for ED)
- ED (via Steam, Oculus or FD store).

If you need to take this drastic step (and I did), then make sure you have your Oculus, Voice Attack, HCS voice pack and ED user id/passwords (and the email you used to open the accounts) written down somewhere AND your game ED custom key bindings saved on a USB. It's a pain to chase this info down when your part way through an install or having to re-do all your key binds after the install. Obviously, if you also have some important personal data back that up to, but it's amazing how much crap there is on your 'puter that you don't need.

Good luck. Hope I'm wrong and you can get way without another re-install, but don't shy away from it if needed. It can be done in a few hours if you're organised and you end up with a nice crispy as new rig, with nearly empty disks to fill, which solves all manner of problems :)

Before reinstalling Win10 (which was a full reinstall, not a reset), Rift was flawless, I never even had issue with Home 2.0 either.

However, you could be on something:
- I did get a message about updateing NET framework, which the system did
- Oculus log shows a myriad of errors about not able to contact the the servers

I have three drives, upon reinstall I only formatted the system drive, so all system related things should be clean. Perhaps I should delete all Oculus-related files on all drives after uninstalling and attempt a fresh one?

As you have already done a full re-install of Win 10, I agree. Get rid of all Oculus stuff wherever it is (it does leave stuff behind after uninstall) and then reinstall Oculus.

Thanks for the responses so far! I will let you know how this unfolds.
I submitted a ticket to the Oculus support as well.

I cannot imagine playing ED on pancake again, so I do hope this get sorted before 3.3 goes live.
