No Man's Sky getting VR support in next big patch.

Pretty excited about this, as it's been one of the main reasons I've never really bothered getting into this game. Well that and other issues, but it's been a good long while since I last played it. Anyway, more games to play in VR, can't be a bad thing. It'll give me something else to play until 2020 if nothing else.

I didn't buy NMS until their last update Beyond (?) because of the massive cluster**** at launch of it not being anywhere near feature complete, but you have to raise a glass to Hello Games for getting down to it afterwards, and polishing that particular dog-turd into a really good title. And we're getting VR support in summer, for nothing. I am really looking forward to it, particularly those planet-entry transitions into the atmosphere- speaking of which, come on FD..! :)

I'd be more impressed if they can introduce "save your game" support. Having to start over every time the game is launched gets on your nerves after a short while.

You can save.

Wait, really?

nope, you can save. Multiple saves too, I have a couple of "normal" saves, a hardcore save (die and that save is over) and a survival mode save (harder than normal).

If NMS is going roomscale VR, allowing us to use touch controllers to interact with the game, then I might be willing to give it a try again. If it requires a controller or keyboard/mouse to play, then I'll sit this one out... after loading an old save just to take a peek, of course. NMS isn't designed to be played HOTAS, and for me VR is only enjoyable with either touch controllers or HOTAS.

It's not every time, but yeah, it's annoying when they do reset of the galaxy (I think it's been only twice so far). But it does make sense though when they do it because they change the algorithms. And you don't lose your progress. You keep ships, mats, etc, only lose the discoveries, planets, and the bases.

When it goes to VR, I most definitely want them to allow the use of the wands and roomscale. Not sure how it'll be to fly the ship standing though.

Yeah, it's HOTAS or not at all for me as well.

Will wait for reviews but this may be the most exciting VR title this year for me, and it's looking to be a huge year for VR!

Well looking at the video, it looks as if you'll be able to use motion controllers to handle the stick and throttle etc. Certainly the planetside bits looked like they were full motion control, by the way the guns and what not were being held. What would be best of course, is if they included as many control options as possible, like kbm, hotas, motion control and even a mixture of all of them.

Edit:

Also, if it's coming out on PSVR too, then I imagine it will be fully motion control compatible, as PS users are not likely to be using kbm or hotas setups. So I expect it will support all control types on PC.

Apparently you can use your Touch/Wands as virtual HOTAS (like VTOL VR) and change the modes on your multi-tool gun by pressing stuff on it, and stow it by reaching round to your backpack.

I'm interested to see how the sense of scale is, things being pretty huge when using the camera. The planet-side draw distance looks fairly low but perhaps comparable to SkyrimVR. I'm hoping it'll give me a taster of NewEra Elite :)

No I can't. Ever since the Atlas update, that pleasure is denied to me.
Have you checked the save files if they somehow got a changed permission or something?

Saving shouldn't be a problem. I even have used the savefile editor to give me some extra stuff in one of my savefiles just for fun. One save is pure, play it the way it is, and the other is one that I've given stuff, material etc, by editing.

I have re-installed Windows 10 on a spare HDD, installed only Steam and NMS and still it won't save.
I've tried another machine entirely, still it won't save.
General wisdom appears to be try the GOG version, but that involves buying it all over again and - no.

In fairness, Hello Games' support have tried to figure out what's up, but with only two or three people with the problem, they're not really bothered about it. I don't blame them.

Steam support just don't care.

How strange.

So it's connected to your steam account then somehow, since hardware, OS, and installation can be ruled out. Doesn't sound like it's an issue with the game per se, but the steam libraries. Any settings in Steam that could be affecting it?

Sorry to hear though. Hope you're not getting this with other steam games too.
