No Really Let Us Jump Between Stars In Multi-Stellar Systems

Personally I'd prefer microjumps but I could live with that, wouldn't complain. BUT if Frontier is going to do that supercruise better get a hell of a lot more interesting.

Yes, you can get interdicted. But the odds of that happening, especially in remote systems are slim. The pirate would have to either flying toward the populated area just like you, camping the route, or fun some utterly insane reason, flying away from the populated area you.

And I feel you on that, and understand, which is why I think it needs to turn into making those long distance SC runs lucrative, rather than removing them. This way, those interdictions can happen, and your reward to toughing out that long distance travel could be rewarded with something very lucrative or well earned. This makes long distance a choice and a risk/reward.

If anything is arbitrary and unrealistic (as far as realistic goes in ED, which tbh isn't very realistic) it's NOT being able to jump to each star that's in range.

I mean honestly, this makes absolutely no sense. I can't fathom why some people are pulling the "realism" card while arguing that you should only be allowed to jump to 1 specific arbitrary star in a multi star system. How does that make any sense at all? The answer is that it doesn't.

If you want to force people to jump to a single point in a binary system with no choice between stars then at least make that point the barycenter instead of a random arbitrarily chosen star...

I disagree. Space is big. Fast travel will ruin exploring, the sense of scale, and the risk of interdiction from pirates, assassin, bounty hunters, etc.

No fast travel thanks. If it's too far and will take too long then don't go and leave it to those who will boldly go where you ain't got time for dat
Congratulations on not reading the 14 page thread and only responding to the title. You are what makes forums so special. If I gave negative rep (I don't, ever) you'd get one.

I guess this falls in the same category of Same Sex Marriage... all of those against it, some how feel that if we allow people of the same sex to get married, they will be forced to do it too...

You like spending 30 mins travelling to a generic space station? Congrats! Keep doing it, just let us who think we can use our time in a better way make a micro jump to get there and go on with your grinding.

Let it be an option, in that way all of those that just keep uttering "This is Elite!" can spend their time feeling as Elite as they possibly can.

Let's see, you say, if you don't like micro jumps don't use them.

i say, if you don't like 300.000ls SC rides don't go there.

What was the problem again.....?

No no, there being long distance is like same sex marriage. The people who don't like long distance travel times are afraid that they have to do it just because it is there.

See, I can use your same argument for my point. Therefore it is a bad analogy.

If I come across one of these systems when trading I write it down in my blacklist and take the 5-10 minutes to find a different port for my wares. Completely a waste of time to try and traverse those multi star systems.

This is so totally a non-issue.

Rules of the game: You arrive at a system in close proximity to the most massive body in that system. To get anywhere else in that system you need to SC to get there.

Plan your play accordingly.

Low on mission time? You didn't plan too well taking that mission, did you?
Low on fuel? Should have refueled at Northampton service station instead of thinking you could make it all the way to Watford Gap before your tank ran dry.

In your opinion. Some people like doing it just to explore the game.

well the thread has morphed from:
No Really Let Us Jump Between Stars In Multi-Stellar Systems
.
to:
how much should be charged for goods at remote stations ... and why long SuperCruise travel times are good / bad
.
From a technology standpoint ... I'm curious about jumping between stars within a "system" ... why we can't but can jump between stars not in the same system.

Real answer? It's because hyperspace is a cleverly disguised loading screen between "system" instances.

I don't like the idea of micro-jumps, instead I'd like to seem random system entry stars instead of one. Today we always pop near the heaviest star. I'd prefer a system we have a CHANCE to pop near the particular star depending on it's mass, let's say if star A has 2x mass of star B, then we'd have 66% chance of popping near star A and 33% for star B. This would actually make travelling harder, being less predictable.

I'd rather like to have an autopilot module like in F:E2 and FFE. It won't make travels faster nor easier (once you have learned how to do it well, it is no more challenging, just boring), but at least i could view galaxy map or read a book (or this forum, heh) rather than micromanaging my thrusters over and over again.

Also the largest multi-star systems, like infamous Alpha Centauri, should be divided to smaller systems close to each other.

In the case of having to supercruise from alpha centauri to proxima centauri. There is doubt IRL as to whether proxima actually is part of the alpha centauri system AT ALL, or just happens to be moving in roughly the same direction.

But because the game decides that it is part of that system, we need to supercruise to it.

Can the FSD not differentiate between gravity wells 0.21 LY apart anyway!

Well this is a great idea !

I think it should simply let you jump IF YOU HAVE ALREADY VISITED IT.

I do see a reason for an initial long journey - if its undiscovered for you. If its a little bit of a challenge to find in some way. But once its in your computer, theres little reason to take so long a second time.
In fact, the "reward" for exploration like that would be to unlock it as a destination.

You already have the option not to travel in SC for hundreds of thousands of lightseconds.

Its called not going to those systems. Its trivially easy to identify the systems with the big gulfs in between, look at the Semi-Major Axis value for the Primary in the System Map.

Yet another person calling out for game features to be removed in order to make the game easier on them. When will this end??
