No, Shadow Delivery smuggling missions are not to difficult!

I love the npc police in fed ships that actually gain on my a rated cobra unless I boost.
I did not now feds can run faster than 350

Yeah haha, they do make a good speed. I used a cobra before my asp, A rated both and boy does the cobra move! My asp was boosting to about 389ish, and constantly boosting only just let me pull away from those fed vipers. The other ships weren't so much of a problem.

Seems to me the CMDS who think these missions are just fine aren't failing them very often.

I would much prefer a large fine and an escalation in hostilities.

Agreed. I did a bunch of Shadow Deliveries out of Fehu. Enough to get a Cutter. Had some trouble early, then went a LONG time without a Fail. Thought I had it down. Went to Robigo yesterday to see what all the fuss was about, and got an insta-interdiction as soon as I popped out at a star. Got "Ship scan detected." "No problem" I thought, I'm already boosting so no prob....MISSION FAILED, MISSION FAILED (x11 = 40m+ lost). I didn't even get mad, just had to laugh out loud. That scan completed in WAY less than 10 seconds. ED, always a new trick to play.

Some people post that firing on the authority ships stops the scan. Hasn't worked for me. The usual forum response is something like "You're just not doing it right. You suck!" Maybe, but I'm beginning to believe, based on many posts claiming differing experiences, that people have significantly different experiences in game. When I was easily completing missions out of Fehu, if someone had posted "These are too hard," it would have been easy for me to dismiss it as lack of ability. Now I'm not so sure. Without being able to look over someone's shoulder while they're playing and see what they're doing and what the game is throwing at them, can't really make sense of it. I'll probably give Robigo a few more tries just as an experiment. That's how I try and approach it. Like, "OK, ED, what kind of ridiculous difficulty ramp-up do you have for me today? Interdiction by wing of 57 Corvettes that drop 100m away and immediately all fire plasmas. Really? Let's see it!"

Not knowing what to expect adds a certain amount of interest, but if it throws random failures at me that don't seem possible to avoid, I just have to look at the overall completion percentage and decide if it's worth the bother. If not, there's always trading.

It does work. I've placed turret pulses on my Asp. With 4 pips engines and 1 pip sys/weps, when I get interdicted I make sure to target the system authority using the left panel (sometimes smuggler can pull you then SA will spawn later so make sure to target them) then fire the turrets when you hear scan detected but before you pivot around and visiual see the target. The turrets will do their thing.

The reason why I wait is because sometimes you may get lucky - if you have report crimes turned on, sometimes the SA will attack the NPC that pulled you out of SC.

Once you got them firing on you, Sir Robin away. And depending on you mission stack (30+ or so) be prepared to do this at every star along your destination.

DanaM: If you have a way to capture some video of one of your runs, I would be happy to watch it and see if there's anything useful I can gleam and convey.

I don't think the FAS is used by system security, though. At least, I never saw it in hundreds of missions.

Me neither.

It does work.

Thanks for the info. Good technique, I'll try it. A point I was trying to make, though, is that it has worked for you. Just like what I was doing on the Fehu run was working for me. If I use your technique it may work for me....or not. If not, is it because I'm not doing it right or is it because the game is giving me a different problem to solve? Also it may work for me most of the time, unless/until the increasing difficulty mechanic kicks in(usually due to repeating an activity like a smuggling run, in my experience).

Anyway, I'll be going back at some point and I'll give it a try. Thanks!

.

Not ATM, but I appreciate the offer and that's a good idea for communicating to someone else what you're doing in the game. Thanks!

It's a relief that I'm not the only one getting rekt by the insta-interdictions and all these other tricks FD are throwing at us. I understand that they pay very well and they're supposed to be difficult but it's gone a bit beyond that now. In my experience, I've had one FAS chase me but it wasn't a fed, just another pirate. I didn't think the fed vipers boost but I don't think we'd have a chance if they did. I found with an A rated Asp Explorer, I was just getting enough distance from them to avoid scans, but not much more. The times I've failed seems to be that the feds had a flying start, not like the other times where they drop in at very low speeds then have to correct course and speed up. No problems out distancing any of the other fed ships.

One thing I did notice is that the feds didn't car much for me being interdicted by pirates, which was odd. I had left on report crimes against me and got interdicted by a DBS or something similar, the pirate was shooting me from about 1.5-2km away and the fed was just over 1.5km away still chasing t try and scan me. This who time I'm running and charging FSD I am slowly losing shield and the fed doesn't care about the wanted pirate very close to him shooting at me. I smell corruption and conspiracy!! =P

On a side note: I also found it ridiculous that almost everyone in the milky was seems to know exactly what missions you're doing and what's in your hold. What kind of corporation leaks info/permits leaked info on their couriers on such a constant basis. From a story standpoint that makes no sense. A corporation or business who conducts illegal tradings doesn't want word going out about it, and certainly doesn't get repeat business after screwing over the smugglers they hired. Just something I though was a bit wrong.

You do realize that mission pretty much already exists right? These are the "Fail on ship destruction" missions. You dont get a "fail on scan" instead its a huge fine.. Its a nice change from the possibility of failing ALL the missions. Dont get me wrong though, you still want to avoid scans as I've had fines in the millions.

Lately I find this the most effective.. Dont even bother SR or anything else (unless im at my final drop off destination, then i do use SR). As for interdictions during the actual trip, put a few guns on that smuggling ship (at least one turret, for quick target acquisition) and just take a few pot shots at the feds.. scan stops instantly, right around the time your FSD is charged up. Jump to the next system, easy peasy once you are aware of this. You dont even really have to run, and can actually smuggle in a much larger/slower ship, like a Python.

Smuggling missions are not hard they are annoying.

Like others mentioned, sometimes super ninja instant scan occurs and fails evertything.
Interdictions... I have been interdicted in one system on my way to station 11 times in a row. Now that is annoying believe me.

So I did a few runs in my clipper last night. Kept getting interdicted by an asp scout, so I decided to fight it out. It would be a lot easier in the long run.

I thought it would be funny to take out his power plant and leave him in the middle of space instead of destroying him. I know it's only an npc, but spite is spite.

I took out his power plant and thrusters. Then hopped out. The second I got back into super cruise, I get "The rumor was right" from that SAME NPC! He interdicts me again. Now his ship is back to 100%.

So immersive..

Dude, why put weapons on a ship with NO shields? No sense, two hits, your dead!.

All this getting tricky with silent running, heat sinks, speed needing to be above 350, is rubbish.

Also your build is wrong: http://coriolis.io/outfit/cobra_mk_...2o2f01.Iw1-kA==.Aw1-kA==?bn=Training Smuggler

You dont have enough hold and you dont need the large scoop.

Get an ASP E and stop messing around in the cobra, thats what we teach our new guys with (aka the training cobra).

Use your lasers and shoot the cops in the face.

Not an immersion issue, your NPC Asp simply had an Auto Field Maintenance unit installed. :D
