The physical copy of the game will contain no DRM in its code...so the KS reward is still completely feasible which is what seems to be the question? Basically people looking for other options to pursue refunds with some legal backup in black and white.
Phoning home is a form of DRM.

A freely downloadable program where new and multiple accounts can be made with any freely available email address and you're trying to suggest it's DRM? Right.

I will just drop this here.

Digital Rights Management (DRM) is a class of technologies[1] that are used by hardware manufacturers, publishers, copyright holders, and individuals with the intent to control the use of digital content and devices after sale;[1][2][3] there are, however, many competing definitions.[4] With first-generation DRM software, the intent is to control copying; with second-generation DRM, the intent is to control executing, viewing, copying, printing, and altering of works or devices. The term is also sometimes referred to as copy protection, copy prevention, and copy control, although the correctness of apply DRM is in dispute.[5] DRM is a set of access control technologies.[6][7] In 1998, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) was passed in the United States to impose criminal penalties on those who make available technologies whose primary purpose and function are to circumvent content protection technologies.[8]

Yet another person who can't grasp that SOLO MODE is still there - that hasn't changed from beta.

so many people who can't understand the difference and are contributing to this under the totally wrong impression and feeding the fuel for no legitimate reason.

Then explain how this mode was available in BETA when it never has been! only solo mode. Gawd sake.

Perhaps bad wording on my behalf however the actual issue is that offline mode has been dropped when it was promised. At the end of the day everyone who has purchased ED can only play it if the server is working and they have a working internet connection. Not everyone has internet when they want to play a game. Plus there are many reasons why an offline version would be better that an online version, its down to individuals preferences and when FD and DB said all along there would be an offline version and then in the last weeks pull offline mode surely you cna understand why many are not happy. Online games have there benefits and so does offline, it really is crazy to drop offline mode when all previous versions of Elite managed perfectly fine.

Petition to Frontier Developments and David Braben to include offline mode soon after release

Not that I'm judging yiou or picking you up. It's all lost for us now anyway, but during that time on DDF... didn't you ever, ever thought about the vast majority of people outside of forum and what they might want? Cause as it sounds now, and I now this may sound inpolite and rude (not my intention to attack you), you used funds from all the backers to pursue your private wishes and priorities, in the closed sessions with FDs, without stoping and thinking that - hey, maybe we shoul'd leave that for all the folks that might not like our idea and they are not discussing or are not even on the forum?! Yes, you got carried away and now we pay the price.

Anyway, I hope the majority of comunity will enjoy the game!
I don't think that's a fair assesment of the situation.
And at least it is an overestimate of the DDF's influence.

I only ever had my own knowledge and judgement to use. It's what I've used. And the DDF have only ever been a 'Council of Advisors'. As Advisors we had influence, a little, but the policies weren't ours.

So all of those definitions are about intentions... if the intention of the online connection is to actually make the game playable (ie many of its features and functions are controlled from a central hive like in most MMOs and in this particular case) then it's not a connection for the intention of controlling the digital rights.

Actually kicktarter polls are often used if there is an issue, change of direction, new upgrade, etc. So yes... Why you wouldn't ask 26,000 people what they think is beyond me!

Bad wording doesn't cover it. No "perhaps" about it. You were totally and utterly WRONG.

You're up in arms about FD using bad wording, and yet so very fast to hit on them. Hypocrisy and misinformation on your part. Just awful. I demand a refund from you for bad wording.

You are more than free to look at the ddf archives and see the questions asked and how we responded.

Critical point - we were asked for opinion only, we never got to make a decision - that was up to FD.

if anything we gave them new angles to see things, but on the whole fd had a point in mind, were going to implement it regardless, and we just helped them flesh it out a little.

only 1ce did we ever make them stop and change direction (supercruise was the result)

no offence taken.

There's a saying:

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

Feel free to trust them again at your own peril. I won't.

I dont feel fooled or cheated. I have got what i want so far with more to come. At least you got the saying right unlike Bush ;)

The fact is that single player is synonymous with offline.
No one in their right mind would think otherwise.
Online play, while needed in many multiplayer games for obvious reasons, when done on a single user experience is done solely for controlling when/where the user can play.
If Elite is really an mmo, then get rid of single player mode.

Then you wouldn't be required to use a username & password. The server should freely send data to any client requesting it just like a web browser. Auth is a control mechanism, pure and simple.

Sorry I have been overreacting...

I play many single player browser based games (some great indie devs out there).

Single player is not synonymous with offline. Try again.
