You do live on the same planet as the rest of us don't you?
You have proof of that?
You do live on the same planet as the rest of us don't you?
Oh dear, it's all gone a bit 'Godus'...
I understand you completly. ..I only explain you how Solo will intetact with Galaxys the whole time... I don't want it to that my Solo activities has Any impact in Group/Open..and vice versa...You don't understand me. I don't want exactly that to happen. I want to live in a much more static universe. Only large events should influence my Solo Play. Is this too difficult to understand ? Same with ware zones, or other missions. It just does not make sense to have invisible things occuring. I expect the economy to be completely different in my game, but not the history of important events.
Then yes, i don't think many would complain, if they release the offline game 1 or 2 month after the release of the game.
So release a private server with only hardcoded missions, and let the community make more?
An empty offline version with potential for the community to work on is vastly preferable to no offline version at all.
You do live on the same planet as the rest of us don't you? Internet isn't everywhere & it's not all that stable in many many places.. Buying a game that needs internet to play it is not what many folk paid for. No excuses just 'fact'
I was thinking the same thing yesterday.. except my thoughts were "David Braben has gone a bit Peter Molyneux."

All the people that named planets and stations will see in ten years when the servers are shut down that those named items will not exist anymore.
Unless they give out the server data at some point, but who can trust now that they will?
Didn't even have to think twice about it. Refund requested. As much as I have been proud to back the game from Alpha, I don't think I'll be backing any future games development. Lesson learned.
Agreed, even in the most technological advanced countries, a stable internet connection is not at 100%, not even close. You don't have to go far away from the cities to notice this.
Can we please stop this rubbish as it's only harming the future of the game, unless that's what you intend to attempt to do.
do you have any how costly (not just in terms of money) the effect of forking a codebase of an incredibly complex software system is? this is not simple stuff.
"so just release a private server with hardcoded missions"
my god!
i am a software developer (a very good one too) and i can tell you that having to handle (to use your example) two or more different codebases for almost-similar things is a nightmare. any changes you make in the primary codebase (lets call that one the multiplayer) have to be backported into the secondary codebase (offline). that sounds nice and easy right? no it's not.
any changes that you have to make to the secondary (offline) codebase in order to support offline play, not only have to be compatible with the primary codebase, but now have to be tracked as completely separate items in and of themselves. this is not a trivial matter!
considering how busy all of the FD devs are, your request for FD to "just release a server" is *literally* more than doubling the amount of work for them to do. when new algorithms, features, gameplay modes, whatever are added to the primary codebase, they they have to be re-worked, re-factored, backported into the secondary codebase. this is not trivial at all, because of all the changes and bugfixes that were made to the secondary codebase in order to support offline play.
during the development phase, specs change, things come up, and hard decisions have to be made. FD probably could have actually gone with offline play for launch, if they had been able to hire close to double their existing # of developers, project managers, QA testers, etc etc. but that is something they obviously weren't able to do.
And a lot of us have been waiting decades for this game and able to play it when ever we want without having to be online.
I really wish the mods would just close this thread. Its gone around the same point about 4000 times now, and the predominant contributors have been extremely dismissive of even the staff's completely valid arguments, reasons, and viewpoints. And on more than one occasion, insinuations at legal action have been made (bordering on threats)... this is just plain childish.
Time to give up the chase. Offline is NOT coming.
Want your money back? Do something about it, stop dragging others down with you (as you seem to be intent on anyway, with your intention of withdrawing funds from the development company, due to your misunderstanding of ONE KEY LINE on the KS page).
I, personally, want my positive beta forum back. I (and MANY others) want to keep testing, I (and MANY others) want to see the game succeed, while the pessimists here are convinced it has already failed.
