No Single Player offline Mode then?

I think this interview is very enlightening about DB/FD:
http://www.iancgbell.clara.net/elite/archive/b5081501.htm

Same goes for the overall FAQ and table of who wrote what in elite:
http://www.iancgbell.clara.net/elite/faq.htm

As I mentioned, the fact that Chris Sawyer is actually a shareholder in the company (8.2% - http://www.frontier.co.uk/investor_relations/shares/) it doesn't give much weight to what's being said here.

Take that away, and a lot of this just looks like sour grapes and personal gripes.

A quick note regarding the Mods and why they were still saying to people Offline was an option on release.

the store was stating that it was an option until yesterday

And now i cant test ED because my son is away for a week and taking his laptop with him, the only machine i can play it on.

I know cruelty to kids is wrong but surely this is parent cruelty right :D

I'm completly against this.

The only reason I pledged was because I was told I had several modes at my disposal. If I knew it would be an always online game, I would have left.

Best move will be to simply backtrack and reset solo and squad mode into the game again, FD. With as much offline as possible, too.

Unbelivable!!

In the end, there is one issue at stake. The ability to play ED when Frontier goes dark. I think this is the issue that everyone is concerned about.

There may/will be a lot of nostalgia with ED, just as there is with the original Elite. If the servers are shutdown, this is gone.

Freelancer, not the greatest game, but it allowed personal servers. FL lives on to this day.
Star Citizen, supposedly will allow privately hosted servers. This remains to be seen as, apparently, development targets change. If it does follow through, it will be played for years on private servers, regardless of the survival of the development house.

This is what needs to be done. I loved Auto Assault but the servers died an early death and haven't been able to play since.

Continued play is the issue, regardless of mismanagement of the developing firm.

Wouldn't it be better just to start a thread Asking for a Standalone Oolite version with ED Graphics type thing ( like I mentioned before )
Ok they cant use the servers.....But that doesn't mean if we don't ask nicely and perhaps come up with some ideas it wont be considered..

This is just a mad lynching that's going no where ...

Exactly this, the problem for me at least here, is that this close to release Frontier must have known there was an issue/potential problems weeks ago, no-one is going to convince me that this only became an issue on Friday, Frontier, over such an important issue for some, should have communicated earlier, even if it was simply to say, 'listen guys, we are having problems syncing online and offline'. Would people have still complained? - of course they would, would there have been this crap storm so close to release? - probably not.

This is great news imo. This game is going to die if they DO NOT DO PROPER MULTIPLAYER. Forget single player and offline mode (apart from a few vocal minority) EVERYONE wants multiplayer. Frontier needs to add proper multiplayer support, as it stands, the game is single player with hardly any content with a release date in 1 month.

I hope Frontier are not giving up on this game and moving onto the next property, but they need to do a 180 a go NUTS on multiplayer features or they will have zero market share in 12 months.

I mean an off comment saying something like "We have been having difficulties on being able to deliver an offline mode. We'll continue our best to make it reality but this is just a warning to say it may not be possible to do. We'll know more when/if we get to that point.". Couldn't of been that hard.

Not sure how that's relevant since steam has a offline mode.
That's right. But I'm just trying to get a feel for the reasons why some are upset about the absence of offline. For many it might simply be an Internet connection thing such as speed or limited download allowances.

I'm sorry but that is quite untrue and your total lack of sympathy for the people that can't play now or will have great trouble playing now is shameful.

offline was cancelled. "solo" and "group" are still in.
Thanks for clarifying. It still is a big nono for me, tho.
There is another thread with more than 4k posts about this very thing. We don't need more of these, everyone is quite aware (in these forums)
I know there is. I'm not offtopic posting here, am I?
I do have to wonder about something though.
How many of those that are upset about there being no offline mode have also requested that game go onto Steam?
Out of curiosity, I know. And I don't feel being pressured to say it but just to clarify, I don't care or use Steam. (besides, Steam offline only works for two weeks, right?)

well, you are basically agreeing that if the online part of this game suck...what we will have left to play? (and right now it's not really something THAT amazing, at least not 75 $ amazing...we'll see at release date)

the problem is that they dropped the ball on offline too late...what if hypotetically the game will suck on release? what if online won't work on release? what if they'll drop the game in 6 months?
what if this huge potential of a game will be wasted caused by their PR policy?
