No Single Player offline Mode then?

Why was this announcement made recently? when this Offline issue should have been addressed earlier on in development.

This seems more like a last minute decision than a serious development consideration.

For those that backed/purchased the game for the offline option I heard nothing new.

Which is kinda sad, it would have been an ideal chance to clarify the refund option rather than spouting the same old line.

Just got my refund, so I'll go and get some other game instead.

When did you apply for it? and which package did you buy?

Well this seems to have pleased a lot of folk!

I would like to know more about this 'archive' functionality. Can the archive be copied to my computer so I can play the game without needing the servers? Is this an offline mode?

We're back into unprovable conspiracy theory territory, with wild accusations that Frontier only exist to defraud innocent backers.
Yeah, I'm certain that is not the case. I've never once got the suspicion they have been knowingly dishonest about things.
I don't believe we'll see planetary landings happen. I sincerely hope I'm proved wrong, because I want it so bad, but when I consider the obstacles.... it just doesn't look very likely. Walking around your ship.... very achievable. Walking around spacestations.... also very achievable, but meaningful content is going to be an issue. Landing on planets, walking around terrain and cities.... I'm struggling to see it.
It's entirely doable. Even Derek Smart could do it in the Battlecruiser games. What makes it harder is that we now have higher expectations with regards to graphical fidelity. The sticking point for me would be how "seamless" it all is. If it is "seamless" as the transition from real space to supercruise then I will be happy if it is no more jarring than that.
Given they had planetary landings in Frontier: Elite II in October 1993, they can certainly do it in Elite: Dangerous in 2015.
Yes, with the graphical question being key here.
Im pretty sure its just as easy to do a green ball representing a planet you can just land on and see nothing but a 1-2 color horizon now as well, But I don't think thats what we want in a game this modern, Do you even think?
Agreed. Fingers crossed on this one.

Nah its fine, the game will go on and I bet 80% of people who are having rage fits right now WILL BE BACK. No amount of whining here will change the situation so people better come to terms with it fast.

For the K/S Crowd:

Kickstarter pledges are an investment into a project, with the understanding that elements of the initial pitch may change or be removed as development progresses.

The cancellations and returns policy on our site states that digital products are non-refundable once they are downloaded and played by the customer. As such, we are unable to offer you a refund on this purchase.

I’m sorry that we cannot assist you further in this instance.

Sincerely,

It was as I expected to be honest. Oh well, apologies to all those who who are affected by the offline issue. I tried.

Please accept my best wishes for the future, I'm sorry you were let down.

and what game? x rebirth? eve online?

IDK, but if you bought the alpha, 300 bucks gets you a looot of games.

To be fair though they say that if E:D ever dies they'll release the server info. But they said there would be offline mode, and now there isn't going to be, soooo, kind of hard to give that much trust.

Why not just give each of us, now, a copy of the server to run our local game, deliciously lag-free and have it synch up every now and then?

Lucky you, I sent mine on Saturday and today it was updated as being "under investigation".

You would be able to get a refund on the standard game pre-order anyway, removal of offline would have no impact.

Will be interesting to hear from anyone with a beta or premium beta purchase.

I have the beta and requested a refund. I just received this reply:

They denied my refund!

I never downloaded anything!

Good question.

Starpoint Gemini 2
Evochron Mercenary
X3: Terran Conflict and/or X3: Albion Prelude (Reunion had the better story IMO but it's even more dated =)

What great chaps!
Only those who paid serious money (and anything at beta and above does include the beta...) are screwed.
They graciously allow refunds on the chump change.

The obvious answer would be that you have not downloaded and played the digital product because it hasn't even been released, yet!
At most you helped them beta test a partially working version...

Well, think I'm going to leave this thread and the forums alone for a while. It's taken up too much of my time today anyway.

As I've said many times previously - I can understand them removing Offline Mode, but not the way they're handled it. Not at all. Communication has been appalling in that regard, they've let people down at the last minute with not so much as a 'sorry.' Very bad form IMO + sadly it seems like they have no regrets over the way they've managed this either. A real shame as though the game's looks pretty great it feels tarnished for me now.

Devs said that atmospheric and planetary exploration is non-technical issue since it can use same generation used for making random planets- procedural generation.

Have all of those and ED is just better. Please, Frontier, some people have terrible ping to your server. Offline, we needs it.

I bought beta access as well. In my request I mentioned I didn't really expect a refund for the beta but I expected at least to cancel and be refunded for the preorder.
