No Single Player offline Mode then?

I disagree, I believe their reputation remains intact. I also believe they are morally right to refuse refunds to people who have been experiencing Elite D for weeks and/or months who then ask for their money back.

Agreed. Can't be bothered repeating my detailed reasons for thinking so again but gosh this thread has run its course.

Also I really don't think the intention was to deceive or con people but was probably just naivety - the same naivety that has made this an engrossing beta to follow. It hasn't been a PR guy checking the T&C's before leaking limited information each time, it's been DB's enthusiasm that got us all hooked directly with the source of the vision.

I do sympathise with those who haven't got what they wanted, but I also sympathise with DB who's probably spent a few cold november days being brought upto date on 21st century litigation and business practices after what's been an enjoyable journey so far
Amen brother you really got the VISION.

I to disagree, yes FD's rep has been damaged in some people's eyes, but I think the majority of backers aren't bothered.

Personally I think FD's stance on refunds is morally fine, we're all grown ups, we should look carefully into something before putting our cash down. Those that didn't and got burned can count this as a cheap lesson in looking before leaping.

I feel sorry for those that genuinely needed offline (the submariners, sailors, arctic explores and travelling salesmen), but funding development is always a little risky. If you want zero risk, wait until release, read some reviews, play at friends and then buy if you like it.

No. Kickstarter isnt a license to scam. You cant just advertise DRM free and then change it to always on DRM. Kickstarter legally requires fulfillment of the pledge rewards, which are DRM free editions.

Those sailors dont need your pity, they need refunds.

I don't know weather have someone done some testing, and I am not going to read through 542 pages. Just for fun, I did, just now.
First try:
So I am docked in a station I have disconnected my network. BANG out to menu, then desktop, then it just crushed. To be fair I did see save and exit option, but as I clicked it then kicked me out to the desktop.
Second try:
In space. Disconnected the network. After some 5 sec BANG out to the menu. Save and exit now worked.

In both cases I had to manually kill the exe process because it did not exit properly, so enjoy also using the task manager folks.

Were you in Solo mode? I killed my network when in solo and could fly in open space just fine. It kicked me out to the menu when I went to SC.

I haven't words to express what I read there.

The supportive comments were great to see. I think both communities generally respect the legacy of both games.

But the lad there... just no words.

Yup, that was really something. Ditching Elite for having no offline and immediately sinking hundreds of $ into SC *facepalm*. Other than those with genuine problems playing an online game I can't help feel an awful lot of the noise is simply coming from internet drama queens. Not to say I think Braben or FD have handled this well, not in the slightest... but seriously.

Comon people ... get over it!!! and play the game.

If you typing on this forum that mean you got a internet connection.
If you have been playing the Alpha, Beta and will play the next Beta release and Gamma that mean you got a internet connection.

You are all experiencing tunnel vision and focusing on one little aspect of the game (offline mode).
This is the 21st Century and majority of people will have a reasonable internet connection. Move on!!

Also (this throwing the pigeon amongst the cats) ... every successful MMO on the market today has a subscription base. And since FD is making it clear that ED will be online MMO/Solo hybrid then bring in a subscription to support the devlopment and hardware.

That my 2 bobs ... now back to exploring and making moooneeeyyyyy!!! cha!! ching!!

That has been answered by Kerrash (as well as he is permitted to):

Someone as familiar with technology as yourself can extrapolate easily enough from that, as to why off-line won't work.

That actually doesn't explain anything. I'm sure it's great that the online universe is expanding at the same rate as the real Milky Way, etc etc, and that systems on opposite sides of the galaxy are therefore 0.5LY further apart after a year of game time or whatever, but you really don't need that functionality in an offline mode. In fact you don't want it. You don't want to dock one jump from an unexplored system on a Friday night, get bogged down with a work project for a fortnight, then discover next time you fire up the game that two weeks of game time have also passed and the unexplored system you wanted to explore is now fully explored, along with a dozen more systems in every direction. The fact that the galaxy wouldn't expand accurately in the offline version of the game should be of no import to anybody... and nothing would need to be calculated that wasn't visible to the one & only player, either - unlike for an online multiplayer universe...
