No Single Player offline Mode then?

DB: Things are too quiet. We really need something to get the media excited about just before our launch next weekend.

MB: Well, we still have a few hundred mugs we can send out to them.

DB: No .. No .. We need to try something explosive .. something dangerous.

MB: Theres no way I am getting in that g-string again!

DB: In Fridays newsletter, I want you to slip in something quietly that will ruffle a few feathers.

MB: Ahhhhhh .. the Thargoids awaken .. I like it.

DB: No, Sweenys still struggling with their HOTAS grip.
DB: We need to break them down, before we can build them up.

MB: Huh?

DB: You sir, may be a imaginative writer, but your blind to your dark side. We tell them that something has been pulled ... umm, like that offline version.
DB: Then we sit back and wait.

MB: But we finished implementing that offline module even before the Beta started. Thats why we never tested it.

DB: Yes, but they don't know that. Then we sit back and enjoy the show.

MB: But that will be a disaster which will cause irreparable damage.

DB: Normally it would, but I have recently aquired a rather unique shinny artifact which can work PR miracles.
DB: Once a fews days have passed, the BBC will get aboard, and whip them into a frenzy, ready for us to strike!
DB: I can even get Drew to prepare a story on the disaster.
DB: <evil laugh> Our own private War of the Worlds!
DB: With the world's media attention focussed on us, at the official launch we announce a sincere apology and ask our loyal backers for forgiveness.
DB: We then inform them that we, through our own personal funds, will work night and day to ressurect the offline version before Christmas.
DB: We will be lauded beyond belief, and will be seen as Legends. You might also be knighted yourself, or at the very least be delivered a truckload of pizza.

MB: Thats so crazy, it might work.

DB: It is destined to work my dear fellow. Now get to work ... we have history to make.

Excellent fiction !

:D

At around 7000 posts someone listed a page of posters and there were only actually 67 people posting multiple times...50 were mine..
Anyone know how to get that list ?
I would be interested to see how many now

The total list of all posters (and post count) can be seen here.
(Poor Tim lost his long-held #1 spot.;))

None of you people are planning on making a scene at the Premier are you!?
You better not be.

Can't speak for others of course, but I'm certainly not going to. And I don't drink either, so no chance of my tongue being loosened that way. I expect someone will have too much to drink and get a bit loud, but it won't be me.

I'll have my daughter with me anyway. I'll be on my best behaviour, promise. x

"Their" own, and the answer is me, along with a number of other people who feel the same way. That's why the thread is as big as it is, and why it's a big deal.

Glad it's not a big deal for you and you're getting the game that the "offliners" helped fund to fruition.

Enjoy it. Your empathy is astounding, btw.

I'll second this, me too.

Lol that's genius, thank you :D

You better not be.

We do not care about their little parties. We are not like some people that are killing other people's dreams and making them feel humiliated. But we do care about offline solo we have paid for and promises they have broken!

This is not a feature. It is the way in which game can be played. this changes the nature of the game itself. A big difference.

Of course that is an important requirement, had never said anyhting less than that.
But it is still a requirement of a product which may be declined because of technical reasons.
And I understand that people are upset who wanted that product mainly because of this requirement.

But anyway...
ED is a project. FD wants to deliver this product BUT which has to be developed first and not a product that was ready of being delivered from the beginning.
And like every project you may not get exactly at the end what you at first thought you are able to deliver.

Now we will get delivered a product, for me let's say 95% from what I had expected but for you perhaps only 50% from what you had expected...
for other maybe more than 100%!

That is live..damned...

Lol it will end quickly :D

I think it would be disingenuous if anyone did disrupt the premier. It's fair enough that they have a gripe against Frontier, but there will be many people there who do not and who have looked forward to the event. It is not their fault that the project will not deliver to expectations for some. I sincerely hope that common decency prevails and that anyone with an axe to grind does it without disrupting those that do not.

funny thing is I made fun of Starcitizen last 2 years and were praising DB and FDs for being better and making better game.

Even though I backed both, ED was my favourite as I believed in DB's and FD's integrity and moral superiority, because they appeared being even closer to the backers. With recent developments however, it appears that those virtues are rather on Starcitizen's side. Who knows what stunt they will come up with though. I have never seen this coming.

+1 Rep.

It is ridicules to believe that this decision was not made early in the development.

It is even more ridiculous to believe that Frontier would deliberately obtain backer money under false promises, then publicly announce reneging on these promises two weeks before the big launch event and NOT expect this to blow up in its face big time.
.
Come on. If it looks like stupidity then it most likely was just that --stupidity. Frontier got carried away with their big dream, and with everybody joining them in their big dream, and they overpromised. They wrote out vouchers they could not make good on. And when they realised this, they tried to do the right thing --tell people, even if it was going to reflect really badly on their impending launch event-- even if they did it badly. Because I suspect that they didn't realise it would be such a big deal for so many people. I mean, until now most moans had been about a boring, empty galaxy no? About poor network performance. About lack of group play features. About online features, basically. So they totally misjudged this.
.
If stupidity is a crime, I'll see you in prison --I'm taking dibs on the top bunk. :p

Well if SC do implement a truly offline experience then I can see a percentage of ED backers leaving forever when it (eventually) hits release.

I for one have always enjoyed Chris Robert's space opera's (having played the original Wing Commander) on release on my Amiga 500. I stopped once he got too far ahead of the technology curve with his later releases because for the greater proportion of players they were simply too demanding on machine resources and were almost literally unplayable.

So if my machine specs are in the ballpark upon it's release I will certainly entertain looking into it.

HOWEVER it is NOT Elite and now that the promise held out to us older generation of an up to date rebirth of the most important game of all time has basically been withdrawn for those of us with poor internet availability I will SADLY be looking elsewhere.

I emphasize but I can see why it is difficult with the posts like the above. Can't you?

That'll be my overreaction sand related comment I suspect. Yes I threw the toys out of the pram on that line, I'll retract that paragraph and appologise to you all for my outburst displayed in it.

Yes I've been rightly wrapped on the knuckles for that post, which has assisted in clearing the red mist from my eyes, your all still stuck with me though and me with you lot too.

Hey cs thanks for that, great to read a respectful response! This thread moves too fast to keep up with!

None of that is visible on the main ks page or shop but obviously was promised in other places. I will happily play online but it does suck if that offline option never appears and that is the only way you are willing to play.

Chris

It is also an answer to one of the FAQs on the bottom of the KS page.

As per their newsletter they are not offering refunds to anyone who accessed the beta/alpha. This is absurd even EA offered me a quick and no questions asked refund for a BF4 after release and after I played it because I wasn't satisfied with the way they changed the game from previous releases.

Either have offline mode or give me my money back if I keep getting canned messages and long winded excuses I'm going to have to file a chargeback. It is really regrettable it has to be this way but I cannot support a game or business that acts in this manner.
