OK, so I'm about to come into a wad of cash (in a couple of weeks) that is burning a hole in my pocket already.

Top of my shopping list is probably DK2.

Should I? Or is the waiting list likely to be so long I might as well wait for the CV? :S

It would have to be a really long headset. Cats can't focus much on anything that's less than 2 feet in front of them. Amazing long & night vision though. :)

General consensus is that CV1 is at least a year away.

DK2 ordered now delivers august.

Go for it... You know you want to :-D

I have been advised by the mods here that the best way to get our higher resolutions back is by us all raising tickets for the issue.

this can be done here https://support.orerve.net/http/user/loginform

Done :)

My ticket says the following:

As advised on the forum, I am creating a ticket to add my vote to allow higher resolutions (to be down sampled) in game.
http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showpost.php?p=506454&postcount=132

This can be either simply allowing higher resolutions, or by including super sampling options within the actual game.

My reasons for wanting this are for higher fidelity images within the Oculus Rift.

Thanks for your time

Outfitting - With the OR has an unexpected bonus.

Im sure this is old news to most and I wont begrudge a mod closing the thread, but Ive just noticed that if you outfit your ship while using an Oculus, you can freely look at your ship from the outside view.
Obviously the positions you stand to admire your ship are chosen by what hardpoint you have selected in the menu, but the sense of scale is really cool :)
Just spent the last 20 minutes gazing at my newly acquired Eagle...:D

Cheers

I'll merge it into the main OR thread here in the Beta forum. :)

Official DK2 Update (July 1st 2014)
Unread postby cybereality » Wed Jul 02, 2014 12:09 am

The first batch of official DK2s have left the manufacturing facility and are making their way to our distribution centers now. We expect to ship roughly 10,000 DK2s from the factory in July, with just over half of the units through distribution centers and on their way to doorsteps before the end of the month. The very first units are expected to reach developers the week of July 14th. Tracking numbers for all DK2s will be generated as soon as the shipment has been processed by a distribution center.

Please take a moment to confirm that your shipping address is up to date via the Oculus Sales page (https://www.oculusvr.com/sales/). We'll ship to the address on file, and if the information is incorrect, it may cause delivery delays. In the event that your payment information is no longer valid, you'll receive an email prior to shipment with instructions on how to complete your payment.

We're now over 45,000 DK2 pre-orders, which is incredibly exciting. That said, we're slightly behind in manufacturing and there's currently a high chance that some developers with estimated shipping in July may not have their DK2s shipped until August. We have a team in China working on continued ramp of production at our factory, and we'll work our way through the queue as fast as we can.

Once your Development Kit 2 is ready for shipment, you'll receive an email with a tracking number which can be used to see an estimated delivery date. Please do not contact Oculus support asking for a shipping estimate, as we do not know the status of your package until a tracking number has been generated.

We'll continue to post status updates, so everyone can stay current on what's going on behind the scenes. Thanks again for your continued support, and we hope everyone is excited to be begin working with DK2!

Hooray! Congratulations mate... :) I'm sure you won't regret it. The more of us on Or, specially when comms arevup and running the more immersive it will be.

Although I worry your wait will be worse than the Aghhhhhh not knowing club as when we eventually get the first ones delivered we'll all be waxing lyrical about it all over the forum

That's my technology pimping done for the day... (leans back on chair).

I can't wait to find out how much somebody buys one for on ebay july 14th. I ordered mine on mar 19th (albiet at 130pm) so if it arrives in july I might just see if I can get $100,000 for it on craigslist or something.

(JK of course)

Thanks. :)

I'm looking forward to reading about the early adopters' experience to be honest.

All I know is... it's going to be a very LONG wait till September... or even October as the ship date is so vague, could ship on the 1st or the 30th.

Exciting though. There's a few games that appeal right now that support Rift, including & especially Elite, but also Alien Isolation looks great...

This thread makes no sense anymore. There are plenty of "ED" related technical issues discussed in here. So why is this thread in the Off-topic "non ED" section now ? The way this thread got merged basically removes all hope that anyone can make sense of it.

I think the DK's are pointless for the consumer, ultimately. You may as well throw hundreds on version 0.8 of something.

Nonsense... (with polite respect). CV1 is least a year away ish. £250 is worth it in the meantime.

I am developing for it as well as gaming... But still worth it anyway. This is the future man :)

Well there are a lot of people wasting their money then !! lol

Last report was over 45,000 orders for DK2, and I don't believe for 1 minute they are all developers.

That's a lot of people to help ED get their VR implementation spot on before the consumer version is released (Date still unknown, my guess.. 2-3Q 2015)

I was a DK1 backer (Kickstarter) and currently have the RiftUP! 1080p upgrade, am currently saving spare cash to buy DK2 (might skip for the CV1)

I am a small time, non-profit making (currently) indie developer, and believe very strongly that all games developers should be looking very seriously at including VR support in any future games they have planned.

ED is FANTASTIC in 1080p VR ! :D

Some people will say anything to get others to cancel their order, moving them up the list.

;)

Throw hundreds at 0.8 of something? Really? Like Elite: Dangerous you mean? (alpha... premium beta... beta...).

Really jonty, I'm disappointed in you. And after you encouraged so many people to pledge so highly too. :p

FWIW, I'm a developer, but don't know if I'd ever develop for it. I just think that CV1 is probably 18 months away and may even be gimped from DK2 to save money (they have promised a price point of $300 or less after all).

Not for me thank you. The helmet is too big. It's too expensive. It gives nausea. Although it is beautiful, I do not want. Perhaps one day when that will be eyeglasses, and cheaper

I urge you to try one if you get the chance, my money is on you changing your mind (ok best wait for DK2 if your worried about nausea, as DK1 can indeed induce it in some people due to a poor screen mainly).

When it comes to cost, it should be around $300, but bear in mind you will need a very good PC to play ED at the necessary frame rates to get a good experience (60fps minimum) it will work out a lot more expensive for some to go VR.

Oh, and thoughts of what it looks like to be seen wearing a rift soon go out of the window once you get fully immersed !

Its hard to put into words the feeling of actually sitting in your space ship, looking around your cabin, tracking your enemy with your head, as you realign your ship to attack.. it feels so natural, and am sure gives a big advantage in battle too.

I should point out that I am not normally known for spouting hyperbole or fanboy type propaganda, however, when it comes to in-your-face immersive VR I am a true evangelist :D

Not if you are in the demand a "3 person view group"
