Newcomer / Intro Noob combat question.

If I fit 2 x shield banks do I get more shield banks to use?
Also the higher cost the weopans are, are they better ?
Turreted weopans I cant get them to auto fire, even if I put them on fire on will. Is it a bug ? or me missing something.
Ty in advance

if you use the shield cell bank shortcut key it will fire both banks at the same time. if you bind them to different weapon groups you can then use them individually. finally if you use the shortcut button but have one of them powered off you can use them individually that way too.

bigger is not always better with weapons, there are a lot of pro's and con's to each weapon type so you need to pick the right one for the job. a no brainer update is a better power distributor, that boosts your weapons fire time, how often you can boost and how well your shields work.

i'm not sure on turreted weapons, i believe they are a bit problematic at the moment and may hit an innocent by mistake which will put a bounty on your head. they have had a lot of loving by the devs though and should be working properly when we get update 1.1 (it's in beta now).

If you fit two shield cell banks then as far as I'm aware you can carry double the amount of shield cells and you can use the second bank while the first bank is still on cooldown. However I think you have to map them to different fire buttons, I think I've heard that if you use the shield-cell hotkey it will simply activate both banks.

Higher class weapons are both more powerful and more expensive than lower-class ones, however they also weigh more, generate more heat and consume more power. Grade is really redundant with weapons as a certain weapon of a certain class only comes in a single grade. Fixed weapons are more powerful than gimballed despite being cheaper, but gimballed of course are easier to aim with, gimballed in turn are more powerful yet cheaper than turrets of the same class. So in that case higher cost weapons aren't necessarily better and there is a good reason why people aspire to have a good enough aim that they can use fixed weapons. Different types of weapon have advantages and disadvantages of their own, and while generally the more powerful ones are more expensive they also have drawbacks such as slower fire-rates and expensive ammunition; and different weapons are better against either armour or shields, or at penetrating armour to reach the subsystems. Which weapon you can do most damage with depends on your skills, your ship, the opponents you face and your fighting style.

I don't know what could be causing your turrets not to fire, provided of course they have line-of-sight to the enemy.

If you have multiple shield cells, deactivate one of them in modules menu, otherwise you will activate both of them at once.
Different weapons are good against different things. But yes, beam lasers are better than pulse (at least for now) when comes to damage. Cannons are more powerful than multicannons, but harder to hit something with them. You will have to experiment and see what suits you the best.
If you have turrets on auto fire they will only fire on hostile target. So you have to let him attack, of attack him first.

line-of-sight to the enemy

This.... look carefully at whereabouts your weapon mouting points and utility mounts are on your ship

Turreted weapons, including point defence, need to have clear line of sight to fire... turrets on the underneath front ... mean you normally have to lift the nose higher etc

multiple recharges

when one shield cell module is depleted (empty) ... you turn the next one on

simple

Crap I learned something. No wonder I keep running out of shield banks even though I have 2 installed. I was firing two at a time...ugh...that's annoying

Well, that's one of the tactics, too. If you fire two, the recharge pulse is stronger, of course.

But *spoiler alert* I'm just testing them in the beta 1.1 and they got changed quite dramatically. They now have a few second delay and are immensely power hungry. More than laser weapons, even.

So don't get used to it, too much. Learn to avoid fire, instead. ;)
