Noob needs some help

I bought the DK2. I have a new i7 GFX970 Windows 10 pc. I connected everything and downloaded the runtime (oculus_runtime_sdk_0.8.0.0_win), but nothing shows in the headset and the light stays orange. I've spent all day searching forums for solutions, but I can't find a step by step guide anywhere, other than describing what I've already done.

Q1: I have several connectors on my graphics card, one of which has my 4k monitor connected. Do I just plug into another socket and it'll mysteriously work, or do I have to do something else?

Q2: Do I need any drivers? The Oculus site seems to indicate so, but when I follow links, it takes me to the Nvidia site that only does a GPU update. If I need drivers for the DK2, where do I get them from?

Q3: Can someone tell me if it now all works with ED, or do I have to do something special still, if something special, can you point me at the thread that spells it out? There's so many out of date threads that searches are a complete waste of time.

I'm sorry for the questions. I know a guy did a step by step guide a few weeks ago. I thought I bookmarked it, but I can't find it anymore. Besides, I think there's a new runtime since then anyway. I'm guessing mine is 8 by the name of the file.

Q1: Just plug it in to a socket... I tend to use my hdmi socket. Wont just "mysteriously work" though until you have the right runtime setup.

Q2:The oculus runtime includes the driver.

Q3: It only works with ED using runtime 5.0.1.0 or Runtime 6.0.0.0 (not so much with 6.0.0.1), apparently also works with runtime 8 but you have to do some crazy steam VR stuff. Be warned though, dont just start installing other runtimes on windows 10 without checking guides as I beleive it can kill your install if done wrong? My advice would always be to use windows 7 for elite, even if you have it on a separate partition.

Oculus connects to GPU HDMI port and 2 x USB 3.

Have you installed SteamVR?

This needs to be installed and working before it will run with Elite on 800 runtime.

Runtime 0.5 wouldn't install for me on Windows 10 - seems there was an update to W10 in Nov that caused the problem for many. My interim solution has been to install Windows 8.1 on an external drive and boot from that drive - which also has Oculus Runtime 0.5 and ED Horizons.
