Noob question regarding fumeroles.

Hi

I have decided to start filling out my codex (a bit frustrating as some of the stuff I HAVE done already predating the codex but never mind).

However... Am I doing something wrong? For instance I have gone back to my 1st discovered and am scanning planet surfaces and found a number of airless moons with iron magma volcanism on....
There were 10 - 20 geological sites on each of them, however when I flew down ALL of them were Sulpur Dioxide fumeroles. (and yet sulphur dioxide volcanism was not mentioned on the planet detail).

Is this a bug, or have I miss interpretted the data? (though it seems pretty hard to do that, the info seems self explanatory).

thanks for any insight.

Mike

I think this is a bug Mike. I did report it but that was quite some time ago now. The descriptions of the sites never do seem to quite match up with what you actually find.

thanks... in which case I guess I had better get exact locations lined up and ticket it when i get chance.
I tried to search the issue tracker and came up empty so either the search feature is rubbish..... or I am rubbish (quite possible) or there is no ticket in there now about it.

Each combination of basic planet type (eg. Rocky Body) and Volcanism type (eg. Silicate vapour geysers) has a set of possible volcanic features that might be found on a planet. Not all of the set's labels necessarily line up with the system-map description of the volcanism on the planet. For example, the three possible geological features on a Rocky planet with Iron Magma volcanism are: iron magma lava spouts, sulfur dioxide fumaroles and sulfur dioxide gas vents. Only two different types of features are able to be found on any given planet, so if you've examined a bunch of Geo-POIs on such a world and found nothing but SO2 fumaroles and gas vents, that's all there is to find there.

Which two features you are likely to find seems to be linked to the planet's temperature. Here's a Google Docs spreadsheet taken from this thread, which tracks the various features and what kinds of planets they can be found on.

Thanks for that reply... very useful.
Do you think this is by design or do you think it is a bug, if the description says Iron Magma volcanism but there are actually no iron magma spouts?

If it is considered by design there seems little point wasting devs time with a support ticket.

Thanks

I wouldn't call it a bug.

I am assuming... assuming... that one day, we will get actual, proper, stratovolcanoes on planets, and that the emissions from these mountain-sized volcanoes will indeed be directly linked to the "volcanism" type indicated in the planet decription on the system map. These little campfires and fountains we can currently see are just the sideshow, not the main attractions, barely worth a mention in the system description.
