Noob to mining

This mining guide is old, but it covers the laser mining, which hasn't changed much ...

There are other mining guides covering the more recently introduced deep core mining and blasting chunks off other than with lasers.

you talking about the recovery limpets? i have not used them yet. whats LTDs?
It's not essential to use recovery (or collector) limpets. I sometimes find it is easier and more satisfying to manouever the ship to scoop up the fragments as, probably, you are already doing.

LTDs are low temperature diamonds, sometimes found in icy rings. They fetch a high price so are worth collecting if you come across them.

Like how do you know it’s icy rings? Does it say some where in the game?
Not that I've ever seen, but where to find pax and cargo is not in my real-world flight manual either. Neither was it discussed when I got my Commercial rating as a helicopter pilot.
Elite: Dangerous was built with the Internet in mind, and Commanders are expected to use every available resource on line to support their play.
Sites such as Inara, EDDB and EDSM are valuable resources that WOULD be available to CMDRs living within the ED environment.
USE them. You have the knowledge of tens of thousands of Commanders that have come before you to draw upon; it's up to you to choose to use it or not.

Ok let’s talk mining as so far this has been the worst expeiance I have had in the game and it feels like total RNG, I have spent 2 hours trying to find enough Lithium Hydroxide how the hell do you find what ever material you want? I find the game don’t explain mining and how to find meterial well enough.

thank you
It's one of the banes of the existence of commanders in this game that there's very little information about the aspects of the game actually in the game - you are almost required to use third party tools/information to actually play this game with any success.

But get with someone who mines, on a carrier, and they will probably show you the ropes (and you'll make some money in the process).
