Not quite VR...

Just buy it. I was on the fence about getting a VR system for ages, the price point and general lack of worthwhile games being the main reason. I'm so glad I took the plunge. I've not played anything flat screen since I got the headset. I likely will at some point as I'm a huge CoH fan and that doesn't support VR, but for games like ED, Project CARS and Dirt Rally it's a must have imo. Changes the experience like you can't imagine. Also, Star Trek Bridge Crew is excellent, especially in multiplayer.

What DefiledDragon says. If you can stomach current Rift price - its worth it. And considering earnings in developed countries and the fact that nerds here have multi-thousand $COIN setups with multiple monitors and buttkickers, 450 is not that hard to justify given the immense immersion it provides.

One more argument came to my mind - with current Summer of Rift discount, the userbase has grown considerably. Stores are reporting out of stock over and over again. That should be an incentive to all the developers out there (and damn you HTC for not lowering vive price one bit). With Fallout 4 VR coming out soon, I think/hope the floodgates will open. Older games now add VR support, for example IL-2 Sturmovik. 2017-2018 should be great for VR in general. And in 2018 Bethesda promised Skyrim VR which I will gladly buy.

I've got the PC to run it, but I really don't want to end up buying something that will more than likely get better in the second generation.

Yeah, you wouldn't want to spend a couple of years enjoying the 1st generation when there might be something better in only a couple of years!

I've been playing the crap out of ED using my Rift since last Dec. Totally new game. Very fun. I have already recouped the original purchase price of the Rift many times over in enjoyment!

But YOU should wait!

Have you ever even bought a car? You know they update those models every couple of years also, right?

Still waiting for 4kVR @144hz

Might be a long wait!
VR tech is ok to do that now but its going to take a long time to have the GPU power to handle that and be available to more than just a couple of people who could afford a system to run true 4k VR @ 144hz

Well...Playing elite in VR and any other way is simply not the same game. Of course, it comes with the caveat of then needing a good HOTAS, a proper cockpit, bass shakers, divorce lawyer etc..
