Not reasonable: Ships will be destroyed when landing on wrong platform

Hi there,
yesterday I went to Farseer Inc. in the Deciat system.
I am invited since some weeks and visitied the station several times. I have ranked up to grade 4 on Felicity.

So I approched the ground base, requested landing and got permission to pad number 4 ( I think).

During touch down I used vertical thrusters to land and unfortunately I hit the platform in front of the one I was assigned to.
I immediately got the warning that I am on the wrong pad and i shall start. I wanted, but somehow I was not able neither with vertical thrust nor with for and back thrust. After 15 seconds my Python was hit by the first rocket and another 15 seconds later the second rocket gave my the rest. My ship exploded resulting in the need to rebuy it for about 8 Million Credits plus paying penalty...
Probably my landing gear was locked somewhere. But in this 30 seconds I had to react I did not retract the gear unfortunately.

Honestly, this is not realistic. Farseer Inc knows me, I am a good customer. If by mistake a well known Commander which has already has a landing permission lands on a wrong pad, the system shall not try to destroy it.

IMHO giving a penalty of some Credits in this case is a reasonable reaction. Destroying it immediately is not.

Its usually random glitchy encounters that kill people. Landing gear stuck on a light post, a toaster rack coated in industrial strength adhesive, a skimmer falling from the sky, a dirty cop gone rogue. Such is life in elite dangerous. Some bone heads around here like to argue for no insurance, no reduced rebuy. Thankfully we only need to pay 5% and get to keep the Engineering. I'd suggest you stock up on credits, and soldier on with the knowledge that this game has snakes in the grass waiting to bite randomly.

The example you describe is completely within E|D's setting and back ground. You hear the warnings in every station. Your ship will be attacked simply for entering a station without a landing assignment. You stop the flow of commerce at your own risk throughout the E|D galaxy.

Having your ship destroyed was the station's way of applying a financial penalty. Good luck out there Commander.

This, I'm afraid.

For all you know, there could be a seriously damaged ship heading in to land on the pad you're blocking and your incompetence is going to have serious consequences for an innocent CMDR.

In practical terms, it's there to stop griefers from pad-blocking.

Take whichever of these explanations you prefer and deal with it.

I would agree - Frontier providing no less than 5 guardrails to prevent this very thing from happening is indeed, quite unreasonable.

In the current era, towing a vechile for illegally parking is no longer an option. The issue you had wasn't the station fault, it was your's. I've and other have played for 100's and thousands of hours and never landed on the wrong pad. Next time, log out and check to see that your configurations are still correct. On occasion, if I've switched from using a controler to or from my hotas, my xbox cause some of my configuations to not work properly. Though it is frustrating haveing to check, it's cheaper than a rebuy.

Elite is Dangerous, is it not? :)

If your ship gets stuck, toggle your landing gear. More often than not, this will allow you to break free. I think it has something to do with switching out collision geometry of the ship, so you have a tick or two to get moving.

Also: "Loitering is a crime, punishable by death."

Dripping with cynicism but true.

One reason these landing rules of a spaceport are so draconian is because ED as an MMO game has had issues with griefers attempting to ram or any sort of shenanigans on a player ship near landing or takeoff. You kind of roll with the rules as you progress with the game. Not to worry, others have paid far worse in fines and rebuys for occasional mistakes during an ED "career". My latest mishap was joyriding boosting my cutter from inside through the mailslot of an orbis only to ram an asp or something that suddenly appeared at the entrance, which subsequently exploded. Then the station fired its gigawatt lasers at me. I'd attempted to boost away to jump, but it was too late so my cutter got wrecked and I faced a massive rebuy. In your case, as mentioned, quick gear toggling, or F/A toggling can help in the nick of time. Good luck.

Apparently the engineers are a bit isolationist and don't even employ humans for flight control. You don't expect a computer to look over a clear violation of rules, do you?
That said, it would happen everywhere else, the job doesn't seem to engender leniency.

It ensures you won't make the same mistake again ;) ... although some commanders landing under the influence have been known to suffer similar consequences !
