Not sure Frontier were wise.

Hi gang.

You know I'm really not sure Frontier were wise putting ED on steam, even if you ignore the mass of backers who are rather irate at (possibly) not getting a steam key, the amount of Steam users posting nonsense reviews or moaning about problems that don't exist are amazing.

I've talked on Steam chat to many and they are asking the most silly questions like how to leave dock, pick up cargo, redock, whats SC, Why did I get a fine etc etc etc
I tell them to read the pdf manual but these people reply the same "I don't like reading and I'd rather ask questions"

Then they get stuck on something, get annoyed, quit the game and begin to badmouth it because they were too lazy to read!

This hasn't happened once or twice to me but many. seriously FD, you shouldn't have put the game on Steam, I'm obviously not saying all steam users are stupid or lazy.

Some actually quotes!!

"bought the game, went to undock and got fined for shooting, game is broken, want refund!"
"cant pickup pods, then hit station and blew up, this is a --censored-- game"
"ship won't fly right and something hit me, I want a --censored-- refund you --censored--"

I could list more. Needless to say, I never go in the steam chat room anymore but FD, you should have left the game on your site only and then only people who were really interested in the game would get it.

Idiots are everywhere and write all over the Internet, they are not exclusiv to Steam. Theres no place where you can release a Game without People mouning and ing for all sorts of reasons.

I really don't get all that finger pointing on Steam or Xbox and saying "Oh, they are all like that and this!", they are not. And you can probably find just as stupide Quotes here on the Forum or Reddit or wherever from People who bought the Game at the Frontier Site.

I think the biggest problem is that it was marketed as an MMO. The expectation and crowd it attracts is radically different than if it were to be marketed as something closer to the X series.

One competent player is worth more than a hundred idiots in the long run if you ask me. FD really shot themselves in the foot in my opinion.

You've... seen Steam comments before, right? They're ALL stupid. Everywhere. It's Steam.

Stupid people are not a reason to stay out of a giant new market.

What Bomba said ^^^ ... there's the same posts here on this forum, whining, ranting, demanding refunds, throwing toys out of the pram etc etc.

This forum is a paragon of virtue and reason and levelheaded discourse.

This is pretty much what I was about to write. Look at the difference between the blurb/description for the digital copy and then later releases like Steam, Xbox (or even the hard copy version). A change in marketing has brought in players expecting a very different game to what ED is and it's causing conflict and chaos. Not really the players' fault they are just the wrong market.

A thread whining about other people whining on other threads. The irony.

They made plenty of money by putting it on Steam to justify putting it on Steam.

The kind of person who listen to the kind of criticism above and do not buy the game because that, are not the kind of people who ever will like Elite Dangerous.

In other words they are more helping to filter, so the game be bought only by the right people with more possibility to like it, than the contrary.

An interesting view and one I hadn't considered.

what exactly is the point of this thread if you look at steam 78% of the 1185 reviews are positive that is a higher positive review rate then the last 2 call of duty games i can list a whole bunch of other triple a games that elite has beaten out in the review portion but there is no reason its kinda sad that peeps keep saying that it was a mistake it was the #1 selling game on steam for a while which means they have more money to develop new content for the game how is this a problem?

Except I was not whining about this thread or any other thread for that matter. I think people can say whatever they want to say.

He was agreeing with you by condensing your statement into a more bumper-sticker-friendly version, which you missed.

So I guess it's now irony cubed? :D
