Nothing but respect for the Community team

There is obviously a LOT of anger towards FDev and Frontier management with the way they handle player feedback, complaints, suggestions and the way they have marketed and launched EDO. A LOT!

I fully agree with the OP though that personal attacks are just plain wrong, whether directed at CMs or other players. Just don't do it!

The CM's are between a rock and hard place, and the only people that can make their lives easier is Frontier - by being a LOT more open about what is going on behind the scenes. So let's hope they care as much about their employees as the people on this thread!

Unfortunately, this is the new "normal" now...gamers a pretty vocal / childish when they aren't happy...I really don't understand this kind of attitude.

No, it is not. It's the normal for part of the gaming community, but not for all of it. Though, if you mostly live in the ED community, then you might indeed believe that it is a given. :(

Among gamers in general, the ED community since many years has a very bad reputation. Almost as bad as EvE. But also: FD catered for it. All the "cutthroat galaxy" stuff and so on, embracing "emergent gameplay" in all its most toxic variants, etc. just attracts a certain kind of people. While it's only a small part of the community, they are enough to cover us all in their stench. FD never acted against it. While a lot of us normal players tried, we don't really have the option for that.

That all being said: personal attacks on any developer still are not acceptable. While the game and its presentation for a long time catered to also be attractive for the worst scum of the gaming world, it still is not acceptable for anybody to behave like scum. Especially not when getting out of the game and into the real world.

There's plenty of things to tear into with Odyssey. Plenty of bad design decissions and a plethora of quite obvious management fails, most obviously the release schedule. A lot of failing on a number of levels have happened to make a release like the one we experienced possible. Yet personal attacks (and even death threats, from what was said) on anybody behind the game are not acceptable and i fully agree on anybody going that route being not just banned, but also brought to court for it.

I love this game, and the people involved in it deserve support.

As consumers, we are entitled to receive a good product for a fair price. There is a way to deliver constructive criticism, and by and large, I think the majority of the posters here understand that.

But paying for a product or service does not entitle anyone to abuse the providers, and sadly, that's been the case, driven by a small but extremely vocal segment of the fan base who lack respect or comprehension concerning the impact of their responses.

Anyway, to all the folks who punch the clock to keep Elite Dangerous rolling... thanks, and keep on trucking. You are appreciated more than may be apparent recently.

Sarah? Do you mean Sally?

I agree though, you're awesome CM team. Thanks for all your hard work thus far!
DARN!!!! I am so rubbish with names, it's an embarassment. :-( Thanks for the correction, I will fix it. Sorry Sally!

I saw Arthur's post about people abusing the Community team and it hit home. While I'm happy to tell Arthur that I thought his comments about Ship Interiors (for example) were just plain wrong - I respect Arthur for the stance he has taken generally, and the straighforward manner in which he puts it across. I'm also really impressed with Zac, Sally and Bruce and the dedication they have shown in dealing with what has to be a very tough position to be in - especially just now. They also seem to be a thoroughly likeable bunch, that are doing the very best they can for us, while naturally complying with FD policy.

I've "gone in hard" a few times when I've become frustrated by the company's policy or comments made, but I would hate to think that what I've said has caused hurt or made people upset, but I will consider this more in future. Why am I posting this? I'm concerned I might have contributed to the hurt, and that makes me feel guilty but also, because I don't think it can be said enough, and not just in this context of the coolest game in history, but in every aspect of humanity, we should realise that we're all in it together. .....And while the frank exchange of views makes the world go round, hurting people to vent frustration is just another form of bullying and that ain't too cool.

Warmest thoughts for all team members - sincerely.
Why feel sorry for them? They get paid to run interference for the company. It's what they are there for. If you think FDEV care about the community enough to have five community managers, you're naïve. They are paid cannon fodder so Frontier developers don't have to engage the community directly.

Working as a front face for any company
means you should expect to field difficult questions.
But surely this shouldn't mean you should expect to abuse?

If you abuse your communities trust with outright lies, you get abuse in return. How's that new company communication working out? Crickets....

BTW, I feel abused for wasting $60 for alpha access in a broken game that was near unplayable and then not being able to refund it because I bought it from the FDEV store.

So I will repeat, from the elite developers who bring you all your favourite 3rd party tools, like inara, edsm, Spanish, eddvb, eddiscovery, captains log, eddi etc. We have had great support from the community team, great support from their dev team, and frontier has helped us update your favourite tools for odyssey.

The boys and girls at frontier are doing a great job, let them sort the issues.

It's not about feeling sorry for them.

It's about having the simple decency to not abuse or harass them.

Are they being unreasonable in asking for that?

Nice to know that you condone calling the community managers "f*ckbag liars" then (as reported by the never thanked enough Sally). Because that's the kind of abuse we, and them, are talking about.

Some people either have internet personas totally disconnected from reality, or just live a miserable reality.

I spent $60 on a bad lunch today. The $60 I spent on the EDO testing was way more worth it.

I do have utmost respect for the team and disagree with them loads of times, I also agree that it's never expected to be abused for doing a job and definitely should not be tolerated.

Yes there are disagreements but we are apparently in a civilised society so surely we can have a respectable discourse and keep it mutually respectful.

This forum section is starting to live up to its name 😉

Look if someone is out of line they deserve moderation actions taking against them end of story... not sure why we are wasting so much time and effort discussing it further its just a distraction and there will always be a % of the population that feel free to say whatever they please regardless of what is said or even what the law says probably fuelled by drugs, alcohol and poor mental health in many cases.

What a wholesome thread! A thread that aims at spreading respect, introspection and politeness.
Surely a rarity these days!
If I could, I would give everyone here a like, sadly I ran out.

It goes without say that I agree with the OP. I applaud it even!!!!!

AS for those that think that because they are paying costumers they have the right to be rude, and mean.
Your only right as a customer, when the product doesn't satisfy. Is to ask for a refund, or a replacement of equal value.
That is it.

And for those that already where refunded or asked for it, good for you!
Now do the sensible thing and stop coming to a forum owned by a company you no longer have business with.
If you are still interested in the sate of the game or its future.
You can lurk all you want, no need of an account for that. And certainly no need to interact with the members of the forum.

Have a good day!

I should apologize really Sally, as I doubt you have come across me before, and you could have been genuinely offended by my comment!! I doubt you really look like an alien crossed with a giant prune.

Having said that, now you know that if I say anything on here it is with a huge pinch of metaphorical salt - apart from the fact that you are great at your job and shouldn't have to put up with the crap you guys got this morning.

Anyway, going back into my normal persona now, I do have an incredibly important question for you and the other CMs who got roasted this morning - are any of you going to rage quit the game or company?

This is very important, as I am very desperate to know - duz yoo guyz haz any stuphs worf hazzing?

This includes things like company cars.... ;)

Yup, they kicked me out of there. Apparently I'm too clingy, and I keep annoying them with weird questions.

It isn't my fault that Sauron didn't know what stuphs was, the ethereal, gaseous, evil nerd.

It was warm inside that volcano though, and I'm better off in the shadows of the world. Bloomin ingrates.

The great one sends its regards!
