General / Off-Topic Now that's what I call music - 1984

Basically heard some old 80s synth pop on the radio the other day and it got me thinking about how it would be interesting to do a mashup of old Elite footage and new, mixing music from then and music from now....

Which led me on to checking what was the music of the time when Elite was released. According to Wikipedia (so it must be true  ) Elite was released on 20th September 1984. The UK charts that weekend were:

  1. I just called to say I love you : Stevie Wonder
  2. Ghostbusters : Ray Parker JR
  3. Careless Whisper : George Michael
  4. Pride (in the name of love) : U2
  5. Agadoo : Black Lace
  6. Dr. Beat : Miami Sound Machine
  7. Lost in Music : Sister Sledge
  8. Big in Japan : Alphaville
  9. Master and Servant : Depeche Mode
  10. Passengers : Elton John

Personally, I think I own Pride and Ghostbusters for sure and probably have a couple of others on compilations.

There is a list of top 100 for the whole year here:

Two Tribes is a brilliant track - loved it in Supergrass.

The project I mentioned will probably never come to light, by me anyway, but music from 1984 eh?, memories... GO!

Seen The Sisters last year and Killing Joke "Brighter Than a Thousand Suns"

Jealous! ive seen countless bands and been to lots of festivals but never seen the Sisters! and they refuse to release new material commercially and only play new songs at gigs....i need to work at getting to see them.

and love KJ think they have done at least 13 albums, i still see a lot of the old punk groups to, UK Subs from the late Seventies regularly play my local, always a wild night with aging punks and talcum powder...dont ask! :p
