But obviously, they should usually survive ship destruction, with the above rules I posted.
Even if they lost progress to the next rank, as well as injury/sick time. That seems fair.
Still a consequence for death, but adds gameplay to it.
I agree. For the sake of roleplaying: Losing a rank (=skill) might be a consequence of the crew member's recovery.
I've still not lost a crew member, but it's only a matter of time. Luckily, I have spares. Lol
I don't keep crew anymore. They are hire and fire for me, as I described above. I certainly do not keep multiple pilots on my payroll anymore, That would be a serious waste of money. I got attached to the first two pilots I hired, but then I discovered the enormous amounts of money they were leeching, even when I did not use them. They are multimillionaires now. It was a hard decision, but I fired them and decided that I would not make this mistake again.
I very often use ships without SLF and I do not want to pay freeloading crew members for doing nothing.
As a consequence of that I do not train my pilots anymore either. I use them and fire them before I cash in.
Lately I even tend to completely forget hiring a pilot when I use my Corvette, which is the only ship I have with SLF on board.
In another thread I noticed that I am not at all the only one who uses pilots in this way now. It is the logical consequence of the way pilots are implemented.
A change is needed. We need to be able to put crew on hold, and we need a logical crew survival mechanic.
My other idea about non-crew NPC's ejecting ties in pretty well with this one.
You can rescue downed pilots, then offer them jobs.![]()
That is an awesome idea too.
What if we combined that with our own crew's survival mechanic?
For example: your ship gets destroyed. You respawn in a station and most of the time your crew is there too, but there is a 20% chance that your pilot is still out there floating in space in a rescue pod.
You then get a mission (perhaps via mail) to recover your own pilot.
I would love that type of gameplay.
