NPC faces.

OP, you're worse than a boss I had that insisted on hiring only "pretty" receptionists.
Let me tell you: I myself am ugly, but I'm the best at what I do and passing me over for some hunk is your loss!

One day we'll all strike, then you'll see how much you rely on uglies once we're not around.

It's not that i only hire beautiful crew it's the fact that there are none. Like literally zero if i want a decent looking fighter pilot I'll hire a carefully since most women look like they've been hit by train that makes havery dent look attractive.

Just remember, until the last patching all the stations looked like prison or some idea of space construction with zero esthetics. Since the update we now see some stations with parks, and pools. I would love to see some NPC faces that were not hit with an ugly stick. Maybe at some point they will get to that. Immersion is for the birds. Comics and games have pretty bodies and faces for a reason. Frontier needs to review some of those choices.

In the future, the crack head look will be all the rage.
Just watched Chasing Coral on Netflix a few nights ago. Given climate change, the sharp uptick in coral bleaching, plus rising sea water levels and temperatures respectively, I doubt we have much of a future.

Surviving past 2030 will be an achievement for humanity, never mind 3303.

Agreed. I appreciate Frontier configuring the random face generator so that ED isn't a Hollywood universe where everybody is incredibly good looking to the point of breaking immersion. But it would be nice if it was toned down and spread out a little so that beautiful and hideous NPCs existed as outliers, with most being just average.

I don't mind the odd fashion choices, since the things we do now in the 21st century would probably look just as ridiculous to people from ~1300 years ago.

Here's the issue, how do you explain "beauty" to an algorithm. It's hard enough to explain it to a human.

I thought they just based the algorithm of the NPC crew on the looks of the Players saying they will only hire non ugly crew

See, it's no different to real life. We have people in the real world who are haggard and frayed around the edges. That's okay, though... life is variety. ;p

You try being the crew mate to a reckless CMDR who can't land on station pads, flying into things, getting shot by things... these were their jobs before they met you. In the case of my crew mates, they're gonna wish they were flying with their previous CMDR.

Agreed OP, but it's not just the NPCs player characters look equally ugly, I still can't make a holo me that I'm Happy with, I wear my helmet instead to cover my face. In 3303 I wear the equivalent of a bag on my head.

I'm actually quite pleased with my Holo-Me.. it took me quite a while to get it just right.

Then I put the helmet on and tinted it black.

It suits my character, but generally speaking, I have a very not-ugly holo-me.

NPC's on the other hand.. I've said it for quite some time:

They look like they fell from the top of the ugly tree,
hit every branch on the way down,
got tangled up in the roots,
and then had a big ugly-nut fall and hit them square in the face.

Every so often, I will see one that does not make me want to impersonate a sea cucumber, and the last one I found like that I hired.

Hm, it kinda seems there's only two major NPC Crew archetypes left :

"Weirdo/Creepy" Male NPC, typically posing awkward
"Big Nosed Heavyweight Boxing champion of the year 3296" female NPC

Compared to especially the Faction NPCs, the variation in Crew NPCs appears extremely limited.
There used to be plenty of normal or good-looking Crew NPCs around.

Nowadays? Haven't seen one in many months, they're all the same odd-looking clones it seems.

Strangely, it only appears to affect Crew NPCs, although alot of Passenger NPCs also look like they're following a "limited" Pattern, but they still got a far bigger spread.
Only Faction NPCs don't seem to suffer from those "channelized seed" limitations. Those appear to work normal and run the full spread. Seeing alot of very natural or good-looking Faction NPC faces, those are absolutely okay.

PS.
I can't recall when that started, but I noticed it happening several months ago. V2.3 maybe?
Always surprised me, considering the nice spread we can get from our own Holo-Me these days.

I thought this was a family friendly game! These space hobos you call NPCs are downright terrifying. Think of the children!

I think I'll just wait until we can hire thargoids to fly the fighter for me...

Nice hot, sexy, thargoids, better than the moose's in the human crew lounge.

I love my Holo-Me. My holo me would be me if I could be what I would be if I were me.

I somewhat solve the appearance problem by basing my NPC hiring process strictly on bust size. That said, as mostly Imperial pilot, I would support giving them some makeup as well. Basking in the Imperial Glory must be done in style and latest fashion. It is only proper.

Yes, but I have never seen a pretty NPC crew, they all look like they were shat instead of being born. So, the argument about variety does not fit here.

Having been in the crew lounge a few times recently to train up a new pilot so I'm not losing 10% everytime i earn money I'venoticed all the npcs look ugly, women almost always look like men or everyone has features that don't suit them like guy in his 50s with a sleek combed lime hairstyle with a bright orange jumpsuit or the overuse of maroon colours for womens hair.

Lol, that's why I'm not firing my Elite and good looking crew ;)
