NPC speech synthesis add-on by CMDR demux4555 (He needs help beta testing it)

That kind of thing needs real people as voice actors right now.

I don't mean to insult, but that's frankly worse than pure text, at least for me. Sorry.

Sounds more `real` to me. Perhaps just needs a little more distortion pops and whistles. I`d be happy to volunteer for this. We dearly need voiced stuff for this kind of thing, even if they aren`t drama actors.

Gah- I don`t do reddit- Can you get your pm to me somehow? I`ll try and see what i can do.

p.s. neverminded I sorted it.

Daaannnnggg I want this!

But I'm not registered on reddit and have no desire to do so. Any other way to get this?

Yeah, this is not going to work in the long run if it is going off an offsite TTS engine. Said site is going to shut it down fairly fast, since such sites rarely are meant to be used like this.

Local TTS can be manipulated in this way though, already are some existing Elite software that does this, but simply needs to catch the journal entry with npc voice.

I made something similar a while ago with actual recorded voices though. I'm still missing some text otherwise I'd release it. My version allows people to create their own voice packs and my app assigns a voice pack randomly to each NPC when they are encountered.

This looks pretty good though.

I could really do with some help extracting the lines of missing NPC from the game but they are only obtainable via playing the game.

I like it, anything but plain text is great.

Too expensive, FDEV don't have the interest and this is a step in the right direction.

Hmm... A little put off. You have to add two extra ultilities, which is not so bad, but worse of all you have to pay for continued use of one of them. You do get free credits for a few hours use, but then pay minimum £20.

I will try this on the free credits and come back later. But i`m not paying £20 for further use just for this. Almost feels like a trap.

p.s. Also my antivirus warned of a Trojan, but i suspect it`s a mistake.

It's a great improvement to hear NPCs talk. It makes the game much more immersive. A long time ago, I suggested Frontier to use TTS, because it's an inexpensive way to add NPC voices without hiring voice actors (this is a copy of my comment from a duplicate post).

TTS licenses are notorious though last I checked unfortunately, but I agree could be cool if you could enable it and it would have a tts voice for male/female npc pilots.

Nice idea. Now maybe if frontier did a volunteer type thing where they list all the npc lines which you can download then you could record your self reading all the lines needed. Then send them the audio files and they could put them in the game. Even if people had crappy mics or performance anxiety, the distortion effects would sort of hide that. creating a system to randomly assign voices to npcs and sifting through the files for naughtys or unusable stuff could be time consuming but hey, at least they wouldn't have to pay all those voice actors.

This is exactly what my app does (not the one posted).

Hmmm. *Strokes chin* Might be worth trying to get a chat with one of the guys at FDEV. Maybe after the 2.3 poo slinging storm settles down a bit though.

I did. They are not interested and stated they may add voices to NPCs themselves in the future and due to that would not provide me with a list of the NPC text lines... Due to this I've spent months getting them myself and with the help of Spook00 by playing the game and having a script record the lines and associated tag in a text file and then recording the vocals. We have a lot now, not all of them.

Looks like my arm may have been twisted and I may have to release early now with missing vocals.

If anyone wants to help look for the missing lines drop me a PM, I have a script I can send you which will look for them in your log files and output them to a text file you can send me.
