NPC speech synthesis add-on by CMDR demux4555 (He needs help beta testing it)

Cool stuff...
But doesn't the Logitech LCD keyboard helper... tool do the same thing already? can't find the name nor link right now.

Keep add it!!

I also sound as half-asleep as these guys after 6hours of play. Please no add-on but approach FD for an official add-in please.

I prefer them adding npc voices properly than this frankly long way over-the net kind of thing... that you may have to pay £20 for.

I did. They are not interested and stated they may add voices to NPCs themselves in the future and due to that would not provide me with a list of the NPC text lines... Due to this I've spent months getting them myself and with the help of Spook00 by playing the game and haing a script record the lines and associated tag in a text file and then recording the vocals. We have a lot now, not all of them.

Looks like my arm may have been twisted and I may have to release early now with missing vocals.

If anyone wants to help look for the missing lines drop me a PM, I have a script I can send you which will look for them in your log files and output them to a text file you can send me.

Hmm that's a shame. Don't rush it though. If it's superior then it wont matter when you release it.

-edit- couldn't the lines be data mined by someone who knows what to data mine?

Sort of. It's more random Air(Space?) Traffic Control chatter when in a populated system. Although I think it does sometimes read NPc messages out to you.
It's called Elite G19s Companion App

I don't think so, the game files are encrypted to my knowledge its only possible to extract audio and the models. I wish that were not the case.

I'm not sure superior would be the right term, its just a different approach as I couldn't stand the TTS stuff. It sounded so lifeless. Allowing people to record and share voice packs should also provide a lot of variation.

Weird... unless this is the headline feature of 2.4 :-O

For FDev being so grumpily unhelpful, I hope you beat them to the punch, and release yours first.

P.S. Maybe a hybrid system would be best? TTS for previously unseen NPC messages, and pre-recorded voice packs for known NPC messages.

I find this a bit amusing, FDEV say many things, most of it never happens and we can look no further than the DDF, They also never communicate what they are going to put in the game and when they aim to do it.

It's a big shiny

?

I think that is excellent. I often miss the text because I'm concentrating on the main action so to hear the voices is great. I'd love to test something like this.

Sqwarkbox does exactly that, when an NPC is enountered it allocates a "voice pack" to that NPC which will then remain assigned to that NPC. It then plays the corrisponding vocals from said voice pack whenever they speak to you, if a vocal is not available it falls back to TTS to provide the audio for that line of text and records the details in a text file so the missing vocal can later be recorded. If a voice pack contains more than one version of a particular line of text it chooses one at random, I have over 400 lines recorded at the moment - some of which are slight variations on the original lines so thing don't get too stale. Sqwarkbox will support as many voice packs as a user has installed in the apps folder allowing people to record thier own voice packs and share them.
