NPCs infinite ammo

Actually that doesn't worry me. Seems crazy right? But I'm way more interested that they obey all the same rules as we have to do in terms of energy and heat and aiming chances and turning rates and pips and all that. If you haven't polished him off before he would have run out of chaff normally then it's really just the same as polishing off one opponent and then taking on another that perhaps has just joined the fray. In other words I don't think, personally, that the fact that they have infinite ammo and chaff makes diddley-squat difference to the actual experience of the fight. Especially in a CZ but even in a RES or perhaps an interdiction where it could be a wing for example. Let's face it, if the fight lasts long enough for your opponent to run out of ammo then perhaps you should consider improving your skills. No disrespect - just sayin' ...

Just thought of another way to put it. There is exactly zero difference between one dude with infinite ammo and one dude running out and retiring and another then taking over.

Just guessing here but probably because the AI coding has a hissy fit if it runs out of ammo....or there is an irreconcilable bug and this is best way around it at the moment........or FD are just typical trolls.........

I guess you never fought in a slow ship vs a DBS NPC then... the fights are long, and the NPC should run out of ammo eventually.

As long as they don't change it overnight, yes. But something tells me they will...
 
Especially when they are using stuff like rail cannons. It would be a very feasible strategy to try and get them to spend their shots while flying mostly evasively before committing fully. Hard to do that when they have infinite ammo.
 
According to FD the only weapon with infinite ammo is multi-cannons. Everything else, including chaff is subject to the same limitations as players. NPCs may have multiple chaff launchers, but they have the same ammo as players.

Does the AI cheat?
No, the AI ships work in the same way as any other ships. Anything an AI can do a Commander can do (with exception of one small point noted below in Q3… )
Do ALL NPCs have access to Engineer Mods?
No, NPCs of a higher rank, much like Commanders of a higher rank, will have explored and done far more in our vast Galaxy than lower ranked NPCs. The higher the rank, the more likely you are to see Engineers upgrades
Do NPCs have unlimited ammo?
No. HOWEVER, they do have unlimited multi-cannon ammo. This is a deliberate decision and is designed as such because the multi-cannon fire is made to miss far more and generally to improve the combat experience.
Are NPCs immune to heat build-up?
No, in fact there have been some interesting times when NPCs have blown themselves up from heat build-up. This is a common misconception but NPCs do definitely suffer from heat.

Ok makes semnse because i noticed this with mc equipped enemies. But those ships must had like 4 chaffs launchers because they were dropping chaff like there's no tomorrow.

I often fly with 2 chaff launchers (22 chaffs) and it pretty much takes forever until I launched all of them.

But maybe npc use synthesis and have endless resources for that? Synthesis would give them infinite ammo that is better than players ammo but wouldn't cheat.

I've fought many DBS in my conda, and they never have provided a challenge, well other than staying awake that is.
