NPC's WTH?

jump systems. takes 15 seconds to charge......always.....no masslock of high energy jumps possible

and im also glad, that traders must now watch the security state of systems while trading. it was ridiculous, that you guys were able to cross anarchy systems with the lowest possible shield on your ship without any risk

Due to PIPS effectveness, I'd not run with 4 pips on ENG - I'd prefer either 4 SYS/2 ENG and let the Afterburner to all the speeding, at best a 3 SYS / 3 ENG distribution.
You shouldn't lose too much speed, if your Power Distributor is a good one.

Problem is that you then need to fit chaff, a good PD and maybe even a bigger reactor, which all brings weight to the ship, and therefore reduces your loaded jump range by a lot.

Rall, Zelos......can you point me toward a short re-cap of Elite lore? Serious request....
.
I have been zooming around sorta "making it up in my head as I go". I figured the Feds (Earth lot) we're kind of Star Trekish, Peaceful Socilaism.........the Empire, being run by Ming.....and the alliance being run by a load of clueless hippes.......thats where I hang out.....lol......
.
But reading above, I may have got this all wrong, and as such have been PLAYING it wrong............maybe it is not a cross between star-trek and flash gordon......educate me. :)

The original Elite came with The Dark Wheel which set the scene brilliantly, at least in 1984. Ian Bell, co-author of the original, keeps a copy on his site. Give it a read;

oh...really?! so your income would drop by maybe 20% per hour?!

still much better than any other profession

risk vs income! you choose risk?.......so deal with the consequences then!
you want less risk!? upgrade your ship! dont fly without or with bad shields! sacrifice cargo space and range!

easy as that!

i´m so happy, that solo mode is no easy mode anymore! stop whining

Happened to me last night. I was in my Python (geared for trading and light weight) and interdicted by elite Cobras (2) and an Eagle.
They are definitely better at combat now, managed to get the two Cobras after a good fight but the Eagle was stuck on my tail like glue, eventually got him but he did get my shields down and I finished with hull at 85%. I could have run but before the Python never had problems with interdictions, except by other Pythons or Anacondas obviously.

Might have to rethink my trading set-up now and sacrifice some weight for defence or a bit more offence.
I actually like it as the risk gives me more to think about.

I can see it being more of a problem for T6/T7s

To the OP, do you have a combat rating? I wonder if interdiction of traders uses a lookup on how poor your combat skills are (rated by the game mechanics). It truly sucks to lose 3 ships in a night though, especially if they seemed to be psychopath npc rather than pirates that got annoyed with you evading.
I suppose this means stripped down traders may well be a thing of the past. That extra 8 or 16t of cargo doesn't help when you are a rapidly diffusing could of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen :/

Because there should be ingame reasons and motivations for combat. Having NPCs that attack other people for lulz and because they get their ship back instantly after death is poison to immersion. Even in lawless countries, people for example do not go out driving their cars everyday into other cars because their insurance delivers them a new one home instantly every time.

Of course not, no nut bags in this world at all

None at all

Granted, motivation for both linked stories was not insurance, it was a whole new class of craziness.

Shield boosters are you friend.

2 A Class Boosters will bump the shield strength an equivilent of a shield class. So an A3 with 2 A boosters, is about as strong as an A4.

I run 4x A Class Boosters with a Class 3 shield now on my Python with an A2 Cell bank shields are roughly as strong a an A5 (I used to run an A5). I'm now hauling 264 tons of cargo while protected, and armed. And it'll be 280 tonight when I can ditch the fuel scoop.

It's even enough to tackle small wings, and light combat duties, like bouty hunting at a Nav Beacon.

Only change is you can't skimp on the power plant anymore, but you can now run light shields that are resonably strong without sacrificing to much cargo.

Interesting. I am in a Type 7 working my way up to a Type 9. Would I have more fun upgrading to this on the way to a Type 9?
Add a few weapons and I could defend myself.

Trading finally feels dangerous and exciting, the way it was supposed to be from the beginning.

Did you check the security level of the systems you traveled through? By that you can actually predict pretty well how often you will be interdicted and how dangerous it will be.

If you'd rather don't take the risk, only trade through high security systems, it actually makes quite a difference.

This. Good to see the game finally starting to live up to its name!

what the heck did they change with 1.2? 3 times today I have indirected by Pythons all 3 times I have been destroyed for a total loss of about 16 mil credits, is this how they balanced trading out you make too much you get blown up every other run? hours worth of work gone in less than an hour. A T-7 cant get get away fast enough when mass locked, before you ask me if I want some cheese it's and A grade T7 and it cant stand up to a python on its best day, I tried to dump some cargo like they asked but they still blew me away.

Sounds like you were just unlucky

Ive not been interdicted once since the update, I'm kinda disappointed actually

Firstly a serious question - where and what are you flying, because I get interdicted maybe once an hour in my Python.

As for the second part, getting any kind of persistence AI NPC behaviour that's believable takes a lot of development effort and huge CPU resources, just check out how taxing Dwarf Fortress is on a system. I'm sure Frontier would love to have realistic persistent NPCs - but it's much harder than people tend to realise.

For that reason, almost every game "fakes" NPC behaviour. I do hope it gets further improvement, it already has been, current NPC behaviour is leagues ahead of release. But it's not trivial work.

The Elite/Frontier games used to come with novella to set the tone, they were pretty good. There's also a series of novel being released for Elite Dangerous.

Not sure where to find open referances for the lore, someone else may be able to help.

How about on the Elite Dangerous website?

Galactic Superpowers

@OP: Sounds like you are hanging out in low security or anarchic systems. Try to get to high security systems (Corporate, large population, wealthy...) and trade from there.

I recommend taking a look at Drew Wagar. He has some superb novellas, most are free to download. Check out his website, www.drewwagar.com.

Sounds like WEZEL needs to have some buddies to cover his behind, if he's going to start wandering into the bad parts of town.
At last ED isn't just a space trucking game..at last.

Sorry for your losses OP but for me this is great.

Its about time Danger makes an increase in this game. Video games are about challenges.

I hope all the threads about how hard the game is does not make Frontier reduce the difficulty again.
