Number of Crew Voices?

on a side note, I feel bad for the men in ED. All the female pilots are either 90 years old, look like english bulldogs, look more thargoid than human or just... jesus I know its really REALLY low on the totem pole but I hope we eventually get an update to the auto character generator.

maybe if I go to an agricultural station instead of jameson memorial? nahhh fdev wouldn't have made it like that... would they have?
screw it im gunna try it. this is rediculous.

Might have taken me 6 hours, and going through several hundred pilots, but I've finally found one.
pretty decent looking, nice southern accent, and even a half decent name!
meet Dani.

My NPC pilots basically stopped talking at all. It's really annoying, because the life their chatter brought to the game was awesome.

Given all the bugs, I just assumed it was another common one. I guess not. :(

If I could, I'd hire NPC crew just to sit around in my multicrew ships and say things.

imagine going through hundreds of hours of clicking to get imaginary spaceships and credits.
your point is invalid.
Not really because spaceships are cool and also, no real alternative options are available.

Companions though... :p

My Brit bloke turned in to an american after an update so i ditched them - bored of U.S. voices in sci-fi and gaming.
Is there a way to have other accents in the game - e.g. an aussie, south american, Russian by changing the region?

not that I know of. I did a lot of googling, but the crew voices are determined server side (probably). the only thing you kind of can do is get voice attack and theres loads of voices for that. it doesn't work the best though

Your one npc companion has a handful of things to say.
Your one npc companion gives no missions.
Your one npc companion can't sit on your bridge.
Your one npc companion can't be customized in any way.

If it can't be put in an rng spreadsheet, or governed by a set of BGS equations, it isn't going to be be put in a game by FDEV.

It would be great if you could hear them talk before they're hired,- e.g. read their own bio - especially as they look to be given a more permanent role with their proposed rescuing at ship destruction.
I'd go a step further. Why can't I use holo me, an asset already in the game to just edit them, including their voice pack? the assets are already there, it would probably take a single dude less than 1 day to just add a button to open them up and edit them.
I also want them on my ship, and a few more voice lines couldn't hurt either. Really adds to the whole experience of flying a large ship IMO. the silence of not having one there seems pretty dumb considering my corvettes are what... almost 200m long?

as far as not being spreadsheet governed... not necissarily, they'd probably just charge you for it. like outfits, ship kits and paintjobs.

I'm gunna need to see where fdev said that the are finally considering making them rescuable though, people have been beggin for that for so long they gave up. used to be threads all the time about that in '16 or '17.

I don't know if being able to holo-me them is a good thing or not...I would totally holo-me Junko Zane from Freelancer to hang out with.

On the subject of looks, some of the faction representatives on the mission screen look like they got a suntan outside their ship with no suit on!!!

They mentioned it in the January update patch notes so I assume its going to go in to the game:
(about 3/4 the way down under "ships")

As you say, appearing in the ship would be ideal. I'd like to see recall on planets, advances nav / docking computers, turrets etc only work if you had crew, possibly as a necessity for the large ships and a nice to have for the mediums.
It would build on the the crew requirement from the previous game and add a new dimension for the larger ships (as well as a money sink).

I so wish they got a flat weekly payment and percentage payments kn on top. A slight lower percentage I may add.
But they only get both while on duty or active.

While they are not active they only get low basic pay, and no percentage for things you do.

They should only get paid the percentage while active with you. Not while doing nothing and inactive
If so I would train more of them, currently I'm not paying for more than one.

I think she has had 1 billion so far. Madness

Yes, and they should take jobs from other better paying pilots when you're not using them, to supplement their "low basic pay". They'll just leave you a note in the Crew Lounge "I'm out making money elsewhere, please leave a message". ;)
Such a mean-spirited employer.... and at Christmas too 😲

Isn't that how it works if you just hire them as and when you need them, rather than keeping them on the books while you have nothing for them to do? The trade-off being that if you want an Elite pilot on permanent standby you need to pay them big bucks.
