Number of insurance claims?

122 claims, almost 40 weeks.

Oh, and 378,304,870 total claim costs.

Edit: Man, I still remember the day I had been playing roughly six months, got enough credits for a Clipper, and promptly faceplanted it into the inside of a station. Rolled back to a viper III and started the journey all over again.

Would never happen these days.

In all honesty, for me personally, I'd rather there weren't insurance claims in the game at all, meaning lost ships and modules. But that's just me, not something I would really suggest. I'm fully aware that my play style preferences often aren't well suited to most.

The last time I bit it was in beta. I accidently boosted into the back end of a coriolis in my new ship (asp explorer I think) after grinding in a sidewinder for what felt like days. I had misjudged my rebuy by less than 50 credits and had to start over from scratch.

10 claims, 19,525,483 CR Total Claim Cost

7W 5D 9H 46MIN "approximate" time played

Most losses have been early mistakes like taking a trade Keelback into a HazRes because "I have a fighter now, I am invincible". The last loss was equally stupid: Trying to scan the data point of a planetary installation in my exploration Krait ("Meh, how hard could those turrets possibly hit? Wah! WAH! WAAAHH!")

I tend to agree with you. For me, each rebuy has been an opportunity to learn, to reflect on what I did wrong, and inspiration to get back and try again - putting that into practice.
Here's mine, accrued over about 5600 hrs :)

3,984!!! wowza, your awesome FA Off racing skills have come at quite a price! 😂

Imagine how good Lewis Hamilton would be if he could afford to have died nearly 4000 times in pursuit of perfection! o_O

Mr mailslot where are you? @Lightspeed

IIRC I have 11. 10 of them are by the hands of my "allied" NPC system securities. Most of them my own fault: when I didn't know what I was doing in the beginning. But as I learned what (not) to do, I found out the main tactic of NPC's "allies" is to fly as much as possible through my firing solutions as the can. Thus turning instantly against me. It frankly bugs the hell out of me the game doesn't seem to have any mechanism to distuinguish accidental friendly fire vs intentional.

Put him in a Haas or alpha tauri and he's very avg.
Put Max next to him, suddenly he sucks :)

Time played 5 weeks 5 days
Total claims 8

3 were from being killed in open, taught me open is dangerous!
2 were from slaming into a mountain whilst trying to land in the dark, taught me about night vision
1 was from failing to land on a high g world, taught me high g worlds are a thing and then i went on to practice at landing on them
2 was from getting shot down in my t10, taught me how to evade being interdicted in a t10

Yup, you are definitely what insurance companies would call ”too risky” to insure. On the other hand, I am gonna take a wild stab and guess that those are mostly viper claims ...

A safe assumption indeed! Although lots of eagles in the mix too!

I'm very glad that ship loss is mostly trivial, as it allows and encourages experimentation and pushing both your own limits and those of the ship.

Punishing ship loss heavily would discourage this, and I'd fly much more safely and sober. I'd find that boring, and I'd never have learned some very fun stuff.

Most claims are caused by NPC's, some exploration mishaps such as face plantings, a few 'say hi to the station end wall', and a few 'oh, this is what being out air feels like'.

Claims: 274, Cost: 1,316 Bn, Time played: 13145 Hrs.

Numbers summarized from my primary accounts.

My most memorable insurance claim was after I'd just finished building my 896m/sec Viper.

Last thing I did was mod' the PP at Marco Qwent's base, took off (in Open, with a bunch of other players around), cruised out over the surface, turned around, 4 pips to thrusters and boosted back toward the base, skimming the surface, pulled up at the last minute to do a dramatic fly-past...

.... and splatted into the tall tower in the middle of the base, causing much entertainment for the other players around. :cautious:
