Guide / Tutorial Nutter’s explorers guide to the Galaxy

You really get nothing for scanning or discovering a ring? Even a pristine metallic one? If so, that is a shame. Are Earth like worlds still in the game? I had a sense that they had been replaced with water worlds in gamma.

Nothing for rings or belts, I even scanned 6 metallic belt sites - nothing.. I've not found a earth like planet since release, however I've found Water worlds that I would love to live in, perfect, but no Earth like since release. Wish I made a note of the Earth like I found before release :( Would go back and check

For those of you that do these long trips, don't you need to take a break sometimes? And if there's no stations in deep space doesn't that also mean you can't quit? (as that takes you back to the last station)

When I look in my status panel, at the bottom under my exploration data, in addition to showing how many CR i've earned from exploring, it shows the number of level 2 and level 3 scans. Both of which are currently zero.

I'd actually like to know the answer for this -- if "level 2 and level 3 scans" info can be obtained -- as I also saw that in my HUD and it's 0 for me as well. I have an advanced discovery scanner but a cheap (C-rating?) detailed surface scanner.

Hi, good question, well you are all alone far out but I always drop out of Cruise and Save and Exit - Yup you can save and come back later after you have got some sleep :)

Good thread, subscribed. I plan on exploring hardcore eventually but for now I'm hauling cargo in an Adder making credits. Those Asp's aren't cheap. I love the Adder and it could be a great explorer except for one huge problem: the visibility out of this flight seat SUCKS. For that reason I'm going to trade my way up to a Cobra, and then a Lakon 6, and keep on trading until I can afford the Asp and kit it out properly. Once I'm there I'm heading out for deep space, looking very forward to it!

I've done some exploring around civilized space in the Adder, I find it fun. I just can't stand the view from the seat, lol!!!!

Hi Nutter,

Props to you for the thread and your vids (also gave you some rep).
With regard to earth-likes I found two on my Barnard's Loop trip. I feel bad that I didn't take notes, I went through around 200 systems all up.
I'm really surprised you haven't found one yet, and I'm also surprised they're worth so little.

I won't be heading out again for a while, but I'll spend some time tomorrow and try and retrace my steps in the galactic map - if I find either of them I'll let you know.

Those "Orlov Diagram" thingies are interesting but what are the values on the x-axis? I assume the y-axis are credit values for detailed scans

Nice thread. Most of the T Tauri Stars (TTS) classes are also not scoopable.

Yep, check first post I've listed the 3 classes that cannot be scooped. :)

Hmm interesting, good to know they are still out there! Thanks, good luck on tracing your steps! - I've noted systems but the search engine is bugged and can't find them again! Ticket raised!

Yes, it's value on the y-axis.
Mass is on the x-axis, in solar masses or Earth masses as appropriate.

Next time I'll remember to include the axis labels... :D

You don't get sent back to the last station if you quit, only if you die.
If you quit and reload you are put back broadly where you were. (Not exactly)

How are these named ingame? Would liek to avoid them if possible now that I know about it :D

They are all called "Unexplored" until you scan them, which you don't want to do.
The asteroid clusters are the things that show up in the HUD as lots of little rocks when you select them from your navigation list.

Can you scan surfaces and sell that data??? I keep hearing that it isn't implemented yet.

EDIT: Oh, and how do you take screenshots in game (is it in the key map options in game? I'll look again next time, but I couldn't find it)?

A few points of interest from my trip. The system information should be purchasable from UC.
Some of (probably a lot of) the systems I went through I was quite tired at the time and didn't scan out properly.

A neutron star can be found at:
HR 1950

Four T Tauri type stars in a cool pattern:
Running Man Sector BV-Y C5

And believe it or not, I managed to track down one of the earth-likes. Naturally it's the one furthest from civilisation:
Trapezium Sector YT-A c9
Interestingly, it's right in the eye of Barnard's Loop - pretty cool.

With the Detailed Surface Scanner equipped you kind of scan the surface - the Level 2 and Level 3 systems haven't been implemented.

F10 for screenshots, Shift-Alt-G to disable your HUD, and gravity lines can be disabled from Functions in the right ship panel.

Note that all main sequence (well, I haven't logged "O" main sequence stars yet), ordinary giant and brown dwarf stars return more or less the same amount: 1200 credits plus a little more based on their mass.

Here is an example Class O for you:
I didn't find the black hole, so that should affect the price, which was 2869.

A Red Giant (MO III) is worth the same as any other normal star. 56 Geminorum is a red giant with a mass of 0.2148 solar, and a radius of 40.7309 solar, and is worth 1204.

And Alt-F10 for high-res screenshots.

I believe Neutron stars are worth ~18000 (before mass calculation).
This is based on the system HIP 35804, which has one class B (base 1200), and is worth 38043 when sold. (Discovery + basic + detail).

Do you know what the degradation in price is like for system (re)discovery: first discovery vs second vs third?
