Guide / Tutorial Nutter’s explorers guide to the Galaxy

If I have an amount of data which I logged in one ship and then I buy a new ship, will I take the data with me to the new ship?

If I'm the first to explore a system, when I return home to cash in my data, will I be able to see a list of all the places im the first to scan? Or would I have to find the system again?

When you sell the data you will get a notification with a list of stars/planets that you where first to scan. But there is no list that you can bring up any time you want to after you have sold the data. You have to manually note the system names and/or take screenshots.

But maybe it is a feature that will be available in a future update.

Interesting – just got back from a short(ish) trip to purchase an ADS and was reviewing my ‘first to discover’ tags. In WREGOE KJ-M B48-0 I had found two Metal rich planets both with Sulphur dioxide atmos. My bonus on one was 17,028 and the other just 2,645. On further investigation I notice that the higher paid planet was shown as ‘suitable for terraforming’ which I had not noticed previously.

These were the bonus payments, I did not record how much I was paid for actually scanning the planets.

Terraformable planets give better credits than non-terraformable. If that's what you're wondering.

Yes - so long as you don't explode.

Z...

I upgraded to a Cobra Mk III kept all my data (thanks) then boosted in to a station and couldn't stop in time.... I got snarled up in the end of it, bounced around a few times, then exploded. What a muppet... : D

I'm thinking of taking the plunge to Sagittarius A once I get the DSS and the Advanced Discovery Scanner. Is a Cobra Mk III suitable for this? It's the ship I currently have and right now I can jump 12ly.
Should I invest in finding a new ship for the job or just upgrade/downgrade my current ship to be more weight saving?

The Cobra is fine for Short Distance Exploration (up to 1000 LY). But if you want to go to Sagitarius you should get a ASP. The ASP is perfect for Long Distance Exploration due to the large Jump Range per Jump. 30 - 38 LY per Jump

If you can't afford an ASP (it is quite expensive to equip), the Type 6 looks like a very decent ship too.

if you really don't have much money, go with cobra, but upgrade it for max jump. there are few other players who made it to sag in cobra.

If you want a jack of all trades - combat, explore, rare runs the Asp is the ship. I have everything A grade, 4 beams, 2 multi cannons, level 3 fuel scoop, 60 tonnes of cargo space with a jump range of 29 empty.

Are S Type and Carbon Type Stars worth to explore? Or are they cheap as normal M Type Stars.

Docked after 6 weeks in the void - my third expedition is finally over. I've covered somewhere between 55.000 and 60.000 LYs and ~2000 systems, cherry-pick DSS'ing all the way. Profit: 85 million Cr.

I had no problems or accidents whatsoever: returned with 99% hull, and that 1% I've lost when I cleverly decided to bind left Alt key for 75% throttle. Of course, it was then just a matter of time before I alt-tabbed to desktop while hovering in front of the star  Fortunately, I've jumped back into the game soon enough to see my Asp just starting to cook, and escaped.

I am almost at Elite rank now, but I will have to take a break before going out again: last third of this voyage was really exhausting.

It's not so much about making it, as how long you want to take to make it. The 10 odd light years of jump distance you gain on an Asp will save many, many hours of game time. On the positive end, you'll see/scan way more systems...

Right, a few handy hints for explorers heading to Sagittarius A*, because, I really have not seen anyone mention these much, if at all...

First, you are in an area where the sky is full of bright blue stars like this...
Behind the planet, I mean...

Go to your galaxy map, select "Star Type", turn off everything except "Non Sequential", zoom out a bit, and start looking. There WILL be neutron stars, and possibly black holes nearby. They'll usually be grouped in bunches or lined up in corridors... Go, milk that cow! GO GO GO!!!

Secondly, going to the core... This is usually what you see opening the Star map...

Yeah... Not fun - be ready.

Finally, the last 3000 or 4000 light years will kill your CPU when plotting long trips It took over 40 minutes to plot one particular 800ly jump.

You may be better off going with just one or two jumps at a time.

I dont know nothing about BH or Neutron Stars, because i dont know and the Nutters doesnt help me in that question.
How to jump in a BH and Neutron Star or white dwarf and herbig objects: Only pull back 100% throttle? Then make pictures, scan and go 180 away from object and fly away?

Few questions:
  1. are all water worlds candidates for terraforming? I don't believe so, right?
  2. can you find icy/rock planets which are candidate for terraforming?
  3. what about MR (metal rich) planets? (not HMC (high metal content) planets, which I know can be candidates for terraforming)
  4. can ammonia worlds be candidates for terraforming?
  5. how likely is to find candidate for terraforming objects around the most common stars (class M, for instance). I noticed that the most valuable planets and worlds tend to be around class G and F stars.
  6. which are the different 'degrees' of metal contents in Jovian planets rings? pristine is the highest, I believe.
  7. is there a similar grading system for asteroid belts?

Once the countdown starts, pull the throttle all the way back, and there wont be a problem. You appear VERY close to black holes, just 3Mm a lot of the time. Close enough that if you just touch the throttle, you'll hit it. They are a lot of fun to fly around, though, kind of like a giant glass marble rolling around in space, I spent 10 minutes flying around one yesterday, because the stars around the system looked so cool through the black hole.

Few questions:

[*]are all water worlds candidates for terraforming? I don't believe so, right?

Nope - only if they are in the right place, with the right atmospheric conditions, gravity etc... Water worlds (and ammonia worlds) are still worth a fair chunk of change, regardless.

[*]can you find icy/rock planets which are candidate for terraforming?

I believe I have seen a few few people saying that they have, indeed, found exactly that.

[*]what about MR (metal rich) planets? (not HMC (high metal content) planets, which I know can be candidates for terraforming)
I have seen both. Not very common, though. Actually, I think I've seen one of each - compared to about 10 Earth like planets...
[*]can ammonia worlds be candidates for terraforming?

Oddly enough, I did see one today, and I was scratching my head. It's within about 100Ly of Sag A*, but it takes too long to plot a path to go back and check, so I'm not going back to get a pic of the screen.

[*]how likely is to find candidate for terraforming objects around the most common stars (class M, for instance). I noticed that the most valuable planets and worlds tend to be around class G and F stars.

I really do find it random, apart from the obvious - black holes and Neutron stars tend not to have such planets around them (though there has been at least one Earth-Like shown to exist around a Neutron, and I found a terraformable in a system with a black hole as the primary "star", though it was orbiting a yellow star which was orbiting the black hole)

[*]which are the different 'degrees' of metal contents in Jovian planets rings? pristine is the highest, I believe.
[*]is there a similar grading system for asteroid belts?

Last two - I know not.
