Guide / Tutorial Nutter’s explorers guide to the Galaxy

And a reason to scan belts now, I was getting about 1000-1700cr bonus for first discoverer of each belt cluster.

Can anyone confirm on that please?

Edit - i have seen live stream and clusters pay 0 and 0 bonus on first discovery so i dunno where u got that 1k CR but it wasnt for clusters

I'm pretty sure it was (you are making me doubt myself now though) but maybe just a bug as i also got 'first discovered' for several comets (0cr bonus) which obviously i didn't scan. Can't access the system view for those systems where it said i found comets.. just loads endlessly.

Edit - P.S. I'm not prone to just imagining/making things up...;)

Sorry i didnt mean to be rude or anything i reread what i wrote and it sounds bit off.. what i meant was maybe u just looked for bonus for whole system not per body thing or something. i dunno i know i seen that a person on live stream tried to cash clusters just to see if they pay and none paid anything but gave first discovery bonus.

im tired today. sry...

No worries :), I sometimes type something and then in hindsight think it probably came across in a way that wasn't intended..

Actually i just had a thought.. there may be a bit of an issue with the way the text displays in the little 'first discovered' window, for systems that have long names like 'Chamaeleon Sector blah blah blah'...
Maybe that made it look like i was getting bonuses for the clusters since they obviously add a load more characters onto the name of the discovered item, but actually it was the bonus for a different body getting truncated with the cluster text...
Dunno really, wait and see if anyone else reports the same..

Edit - I'll scan a few more roid clusters and see what happens... Might not be back in the pill for a while though.

Selling data is working now, apart from getting stuck on a page bug. Exit and reload fixes that.
Some systems don't show details though, some bonuses also don't list what they were for.
View attachment 14780
It's not from that system as I only scanned the one ice planet there.
.
Selling data is still going to take a while since I'm waiting for all the bonus information to type out. Can take a couple of minutes per page. So far the biggest bonus was 14,947 for a water world just over 1 earth mass. Kinda annoying you can't go back and see what the object was worth. The next page is already loaded.
So far no really big systems yet. 111,605 most for a single system so far. 27,079 for a single object. Lots more to sell still.

Hello Explorers! Firstly very helpful guide Nutters, thanks for putting that all together.

I am just out on my first exploration run, about 1000ly out. 98% hull, systems all 100% .. feel I am tracking well, but then I remembered the Ship Integrity.

I don't think I can check it in the cockpit (unless I am missing something), but should I be concerned?

Just wondering if this reaches 0% if I blow up or something awful could happen stranding me out in space. Any explorers have a horror story like that?

You can't check it on the road but nothing bad happens. I was out for 4 weeks, came back with 68% hull, 0% integrity. It was probably at 0% for a long time as I flew to another system in super cruise as a test at some point. Spend a long time in super cruise and your integrity goes down to 0 quickly.

Ok, finally done selling all my data. It still took the whole evening with 1.1 It can take up to 1 minute before you can close the, you are first to discover, dialogue box and see the next page. It's a lot faster if you aren't the first.
My 4 week trip netted me 20.8 million for about 1400 systems. A lot more than I expected, pleasant surprise. The 50% bonus for first discoveries (of which there were a lot) helped ofcourse. It bought me a type 7 transporter to check my old trade route. Too bad that there is nothing new to buy for exploration.
Terraformable water worlds were the most valuable.
Best was SWOIWNS DX-A D1-7 A 10 At 2.6 earth masses worth 32,082
Actually HYPUAE AIN HR-F D4-99 5 was worth a little more 32,714 but the galaxy map can't find it.
It would make more sense if earth likes closer to 1 earth mass were worth the most but I guess weight wins over being able to land and stand up on the surface...
My most valuable system was HYPOU AIM HC-M D7-4 at 164,307 Not sure what was there as the system map won't load for it.
The other systems I scanned worth more than 100k were all because of multiple CFTs, even systems with 3 black holes lose against these.
The best money for a full page I got was 658k, that was from NGC 7822, S171 systems. No really big hitters there, yet good money close together. No first discovery bonuses there, as expected for a system that attracts anyone in a 1000ly radius.
.
I'm free again, time to go flying as a ranger.
Btw I'm allied now at my home base, yet they still don't trust me enough to deliver 7 beers, go figure.
.
I upgraded my Asp Explorer with an extra AFMU and D6 fuel scoop. I figured with the route planner being 10x faster and 10x longer routes, I won't have that much idle fuel scooping time anymore. The D6 scoops upto 502 kg/sec. The A3 power plant can just manage to power my ship, 99% used. Yet according to the outfitting screen I'm over for the detracted amount. 12.56 detracted, 11.96 deployed, 12.00 available. What does that mean? I can always power down the AFMUs and shield if it becomes a problem.
My long range ship to visit to the core with in the near future: http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=30g,,2-4s6u7_6u5K8S8I,52W08c7Q40KU0KU2UI2jw

So you put multiple AFMUs in your loadout? My understanding was that AFMUs still weren't useful for exploration.

P.S.: Nice trip by the way, congratulations!

So after 1.1 there's a new GUI image for some metal-content planets upon selecting them as target, but it seems also that many more types are now mixed into the GUI image that looks a bit earth/waterworld-like. Do you think that's intentional so we need to do more work? :)

The shaders for the system map is also more complex, I find it a tad harder to know 100% sure what's ice or not now.

You're still limited by your hull damage that can't be repaired, and damage too modules doesn't affect their performance. So in theory they are indeed useless.
However it adds a bit of role play, park in orbit, power down to repair every couple of days. Saves on repair costs too.
Plus since 1.1 you can repair all but the hull, who knows if hull repairs become available next big update, or if they decide that damage is going to degrade module performance. Since they weigh nothing, might as well take them. I'm taking a gamble with my 99% power usage though. If there is another power use adjustment while I'm 15k ly out, I might end up having to turn components on and off for the remainder of the trip.

Very good guide, I like it very much :)

MODULES
• D class unless stated (Weight saving)
• A Class Fuel Scoop
• A Class FSD (Frame Shift Drive)
• Advanced Discovery Scanner (Finds everything in the local system)
• Detailed Surface Scanner

Is there a reason, why you don't mention to use an lower-class A-Rating Power Plant instead on an higher-class D-Rating One ?
The 5D Power Plant weights 8 tons, has a Power of 15.3 MW and a Heat Efficiency of D
The 4A Power Plant weights only 5 tons, has a Power of 15.6 MW and a Heat Effciency of B

So The 4A is in every part better then the 5D (except the price). Same is valid for 4D vs 3A and 3D vs 2A.
Especcialy the better heat efficiency is very valuable imo during exploration.

But maybe I have overlooked something ?

didn't mean to skip those of course. i meant more like hmc, some gas giants and distant stars in system.

Yeah. Depending on where I am I would already skip anything low paying. If they've never been discovered I'd definitely go there even if there's just rocks around it ;) But if they have been explored, and they're like 200,000LS away? Nope

Wouldn't it be cool if, on the map, it said that the systems they imported from the Hubble data read "first discovered by Hubble Space Telescope"?
