Hello folks, for a while now I have been hounded by an odd 30 FPS bug while playing Elite.
This only concerns those of us who play on a regular monitor (such as 1920x1080 resolution), though my solution could help those playing with HDMI or other high bandwidth inputs.
Even at 60 locked FPS, I've been having so many issues trying to increase the Supersampling in game on Ultra settings. Basically, trying to play the game with higher supersampling or resolutions would crash my frame-rate to a steady 30 FPS (even when trying out DSR).
Knowing my system *should* manage it fine, I've been paying more attention to the Nvidia drivers...
My system as follows;
Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 15063) (15063.rs2_release.170317-1834)
System Manufacturer: MSI
System Model: MS-7A63
BIOS: 1.40
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700K CPU @ 4.20GHz (8 CPUs), ~4.2GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM (3200MHz)
Page File: 7247MB used, 11902MB available
DirectX Version: DirectX 12
System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent)
DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled
Miracast: Available, with HDCP
GPU: Nvidia GTX 970
Use the following settings below (the one cut off at the bottom is just for virtual reality fps, ignore);
Next, you'll want to set your PhysX setting to CPU (unsure if Elite uses PhysX, not all games do - but this setting can be used in other games);
Aside from all the changes in the drivers, the one that made the most impact, for me, was insuring that Vsync was set to "Fast" - any other setting, while trying to improve your in-game supersampling above 1.0x to 1.25x and above, resulted in my FPS dropping from a steady 60 to 30... a constant 30... - the game, for some reason, kept crashing the FPS rate when anything other than Vsync was set to manage the frames...
Odd, and only Elite seems to have this issue. Since I changed that setting (plus spending time researching the other settings), with no overclocking on my GPU (GTX 970), I get over 70-80 FPS at stations (110+ in space) on 1.25x Supersampling (everything looks so much better already), and 60+ FPS at 1.50x Supersampling at stations (80-90+ in space), though I didn't notice a difference from 1.25x in all honesty - but at least it can be done!
All settings were done with stock video options only available in the game - no post-processing 3rd party programs were involved (such as Reshade etc).
No custom graphicsconfigs were used either, and no other changes to any other settings such as field of view.
This was all done properly.
Give this a go and show us your results if you are also having FPS issues on your regular monitors.
