O type

Indeed. Maybe I should have included a safety smiley ... but I'm too busy hunting down clusters of O type stars ... um, I mean ELWs. Yeah that's the one ...

Thanks to this thread I filtered the view to add O type in (was just on NS) and have found a few in this huge cluster of NS I'm presently mapping. My - they ARE bright aren't they?!? Got a system with a type O and 7 T-Tauri around it (not to mention some very, very hot planets)

Careful with that "everyone": I've never looked for a cluster of O type stars.

I'm pretty sure "everyone" knows that "everyone looks for" doesn't mean 100% (there's always some kinky looking for Brown dwarves and scanning only ice planets ;) ) . But it does mean you aren't going to find anything undiscovered O type cluster-wise within 10000 ly at least ;)

Is it my imagination or are Os one of the rarest types? I think only Carbon and Wolf-Rayet were less common on my trips so far (in comparison Neutron stars and Black Holes are 10 a penny!)

The larger a star is, the more rare they are. O types are absolutely the largest stars out, thus the rarest. O0 Ia classifications are the rarest of the rares. That's O stellar type, 0 (Zero) class luminance (0-9, 0 brightest), I (Roman Numeral one) class Supergiant (Hypergiants fall under this class too), with the 'a' subclass indicating it's...bright.

Wolf-Rayet stars are O type stars going through one of the stages an O type can go through as it dies. So, definitely more rare than finding a normal O type.

Carbon stars are unusual in that there's more Carbon seeded in the star than Oxygen. This is caused by the gas/dust cloud the star formed out of being heavier on the carbon side. It is definitely a rare occurrence, but they're typically a dim sooty red like a brown dwarf so the odds of purposely running into one is even lower.

Black Holes, Neutron stars, and White Dwarfs are what's left over when a star dies, so it's no surprise there will be lots of them!

There's very few white dwarves nearby except for the cluster around civilized space though. Guess it's because stars that make white dwarves generally live a lot longer than the ones that make black holes / neutron stars.

I'm stumbling upon quite a few at the moment, quite often a companion to a BH / NS.

Ran into a fair few discovered tags at a few of the type O's so decided to alter tack significantly, after 3 jumps found a lovely undiscovered ELW.
All in all 2 days of damn fine exploring. Now off towards a black hole I discovered thats 2kylies way.
Well tomorrow that is, now its film time.

This bad boy saw me scooping at about 40ls some 1200ls from the star. Big O classes are things of beauty.

Ran through a belt of neutrons & O class a few kylies back and came across some tiny ones too.

I chickened out of scooping at any of the massive ones I found, was unsure how close I could get.
I waited until I was in the next system

Same distance as any other star. All stars put me at 65% heat at max fuel scooping rate range. Only problem is massive stars slow your retreat down, where you can build up heat. I had that problem with VY Canis, but in the end, I got even past that max scooping rate range and was still able to escape, it just took forever and had to disable all unneeded modules.

That's pretty much the biggest star in the game, so as long as you are careful (maybe go to like 75% of your fueling rate), you should easily be able to escape any corona

Cool, I'll bear that in mind for the next ones I find.
I hardly ever got to full refuel rates now, too many lapses of concentration leaving me with only 3 heatsinks left to launch :/
I get distracted easily lol

Bare in mind your heat rating of your power plant. I always use B, so you might need to be more careful on lower grades.

So long as you've throttled to zero you can be as distracted as you wish :)

I always end up planning my next route while in the corona, and get distracted looking at the system map and forums lol

No accidents so far, but have had many others.

I have seen A, B and O type stars but not any Rhesus stars. I expect to see both Rhesus positive and negative.
HAHAHA DOCTOR JOKE
I'll tell my wife, see if she gets it.

I think mine is a B, I know I went with a lot lower stuff than normal to get the jump range up to a nice 34ly
I'll check later when Im back from doing mundane human stuff.
