o wow

I just had a look at the gameplay demo vid for JWE.

Looks incredible.

Makes me even more sure the new paid content for ED promised for this year is going to be more landable planet types, culminating in ELWs.

That vid has all the building blocks you'd need to ELWs, superb looking terrain, weather events, flora as well as especially realistic, customisible fauna that you gotta think would work quite nicely with a procedural generation system.

And though I never thought it would interest me I'm now very tempted to buy that game.

i have a feeling it will be the base for landables earth likes but itll take them at least a year to be able to transfer that type of land over to the thousands of earth likes that are in ed

I thought it looked excellent as well. Maybe we're looking at the new lighting model they've talked about introducing in the end of year patch.

Planet Coaster, which has been around for quite some time now, has the same underlying abilities, so I have been thinking and hoping this for a while.

Don't forget if you pre-order JWE you get 5 extra dinosaurs!
And so it begins again.......

I'm sure it's not going to be as easy as copy-pasting the code from one branch to the other, but looking at that demo you gotta figure they've done all the hard yards needed for ELWs already in JWE.

Oh wait... wrong thread.

Yes, it's exceeded my expectations too.

Maybe the code is transferrable, maybe not. But we can hope.

It really doesn't work like that. It is Planet Coaster engine branch, with JWE gameplay mechanics and content (aka dinos).

However JWE shows level of animation FD is capable off. Those dinos look life like. Same as animals in Zoo Tycoon did. I think it is safe to say - if we ever get to weird animals on ED planets - FD will know what to do.

I've looked at some of the gameplay vid and looks alright for a park management sim type game. Not my cup of tea, at least at the moment.

I hope that never happens. You only have to look at the procedurally generated monstrosities in No Man's Sky... just thinking about them makes me shudder.[where is it]

They mostly bad because Hello Games never had expertise to pull this off. I fully believe FD could do this.

But as I said "if ever". It is huge task. There's much better things to do before going there. Like gas giants. Primitive atmospherics. Water.

Oh yes. More so then Planet Coaster the demo for JWE shows just how far the Cobra engine could go toward modeling compelling Earth-like worlds for our Commanders to explore one day in the future.

While it's possible, any time this has been raised in live streams all Devs have gone out their way to say it's not going to happen for a very long time. It's one thing to make a very small sandbox look nice, it's entirely different to have an entire plant look nice with all the various regions and have meaningful gameplay added.

Yeah, they could go all Ian M. Banks and let us buy new body types instead of just flight suits. And hey, some of the ship cockpits are already big enough to fit a stegosaurus into.

I'd like Neal Asher style war drones, and Thargoids that look like a bit like Prador.

Perhaps JWE is a teaser as to what FD can put do to ED, which makes you wonder why they didn't do something similar to this in the first place. :)

Tempted by a pre-order, but Steam (not gonna debate, just a no for me).

Nice landscaping, and the creature tech seems very good. We need creatures to hunt on EW, I wonder if that tech is usable (the experience if they can cross-team is), bid difference carefully crafting 10s of models and populating 1000s of plaets prcedurally.
