Observed Yamiks and his combat stream

Greetings CMDRs,

usually I do not watch stream and if I do it's no longer than few minutes. Yesterday, while playing other game and waiting for something I was killing time in YT, found that Yamiks is streaming so decided to watch a bit. It turned out he was luring other CMDRs into fight in Shinrarta. Yamiks in his frag Clipper vs...

Not the point actually, I tohught I'll watch and see how EDs ship to ship combat looks, feels, how it flows, what is the damage and resistance look like. And you know what - I found it extremely boring. And tedious to manage your ship ICE.

First encounter, Yamiks forgot about power priorities. By the time he set it up he was ~25% hull. Self destruct as it was no point.
Second encounter, Clipper vs ASP Scout. Stream chat went "it's will be quick". It wasn't. Yamiks had good time on target but it took very long to finish the target. In the end most damage was done by ramming. in the middle of the fight he ran out of ammo. Accessing synthesis while in combat... all those menus, options, clicks, scrolling through options... all under fire. Really great design.
Third encountere, Clipper vs Mamba. Laser turret Mamba. Yamiks was slowly loosing shields and armore, then shields again and more armor, till he was destroyed.

As a CMDR that thinks about some PvE (mind that) combat in near future I found combat show uninteresting, dull and unnecesairly long. I know - combat PvP builds, engineering and such. But that's the PvP reality, if you go there you face such builds. Then you pound their shields to get to armor while trying to outmaneuver their engineered thrusters.

Looks like ED combat is not for me - it looks like work in a quarry than an comabt engagement. Well, bit of a rant I guess.

AFAIK it's deliberately nontrivial in combat. If you're taking damage it'll cancel any synthesis because it's not designed to be used to maintain near-infinite stocks of <stuff> while under fire.

As a combat newbie I must say that I fully agree with:

I would propose an option to create at least a set of six macros that allow me to continue to have my eyes on the combat main screen instead of switching to panels. It would make the experience much more immersive IMHO.

I don't know, the smart and logical thing would be to ensure you have full ammo prior to commencement of combat and if you run out during combat, find another profession cos fighting other ships evidently isn't it.

I was there with Yamiks on the live stream. I didn't post but watched. He was running around Davs Hope collecting items in an advanced camera mode SRV which if you never tried is another interesting way to play the game. The discussion was mostly about atmospheric planets and the graphic issues landing in a huge city much bigger than any current non-atmospheric planetary stations that we have seen. Yamiks doesn't have a clue nor do any of the rest of us. His passion for the game makes me smile. Still he nailed the AX and Guardian weapons effectiveness. Getting a little X-Rated in his videos probably turns off some but I ignore it. It seems to float his boat. To each their own.

Regards

Could you explain a little more please?
In a SRV with the camera abilities you are in something similar to turret mode view but still have total control over your SRV. It works the same in a ship or an SRV if you bound the controls to ED. Easy for basic turret mode. With the camera it gets more dialed in with more features especially if you are into making YouTube Videos.

Came to the same conclusions as the OP, albeit from my own experiences rather than watching Youtube videos (although I did watch quite a few of those and they just reinforced my already made up opinion).

Still like to play in Open, but I prefer calling it PvSirRobin instead. An escaped attack is still a win for me. Doubt I will ever have the patience 'gidding gud' enough to explode other PvP'ers unless FDev perform a major balance pass on modules and engineering. Which is likely not going to happen.

Good for those who enjoy it though.
