ObsidianAnt - 3305: Mining Fix Incoming, Frontier 25th Anniversary, Distant Worlds 2 Launch Time

Mmmm mmm, the salt is flowing early this morning. Of all the streamers & video makers, it's funny how it's the nicest guy who happens to have a large audience who get sh&t on the forums from whiny types.

that is a little strong isnt it.... i think there are only a couple of posts in this thread so far who have been slightly negative to him (and even then it was only suggesting he has a bias, which as humans we all have biases, if we didnt we would not have opinions (imo) . I do not always agree with OA but i like his videos and I hope i have never slighted him!.

I'm glad they are, so I can use whatever ship I'd prefer to use for mining, rather than just an Asp Explorer.

Haven’t done it in the Asp myself. My mining ships are a Cobra4 and a phantom. If they do “fix” it, that’s fine, I’ll just have better defensive capabilities to deal with npc rock pirates (but one less minigame to enjoy).

I’d rather they NOT “fix” enjoyable but unintended gameplay but oh well. Rather they work on fixing minerals getting stuck inside the asteroid bits and causing limpets to suicide.
Sort of concur - It would be nice if it was simply reined in a bit so it's still a workable nuance, but not a predictable thing to reliably abuse. So two abrasion blasters give a chance of getting two fragments etc.

And of course there's far more fundamental issues with mining than being able to get two (or more) fragments instead of one.

The PWA behaviour means it's all but pointless accept for the motherlode->motherlode->motherlode. And this is it partly also to do with the balancing mechanics being so skewed even things like sub-surface missiles are all but pointless!

It's almost like the Void Opal rush was created to cover up the balancing/mechanic issues with credits :)

Unofficial FD community manager has done a new vid ? And of course, nothing about the huge amount of bugs and especially on BGS... So blatant PR.

You should check out Obsidian Orbital in-game, and if using Voice Attack grab the Obsidian HCS pack too. That way you hear his voice more often :)

In fairness, 1 AB is still plenty to make a mint. using more is just plain exploiting.

In relation to OA - Always seems alike a fair level headed chap to me.

I have himself and Yamiks sub'd. OA for the news and Yamiks for the reviews.

The concurrent player count will drop regardless, such is the nature of major interest after major updates.

out of curiosity... those players here who played 1st encounters....... did you play much after you got hold of your very own thargoid attack ship?

For me when i got it, for a few hrs it was fun, nothing could hurt me, i could destroy anything i wanted and i could earn all the money i could possibly need in very short time................ it was great...... for perhaps 2 or 3 hrs.

I never played it again after that and therefore never got past deadly. I propose this could account for some of the increased player numbers... having all the toys is nice for a time but after that.....................?

To me this is what the new mining mechanic is, and is why i cant go near it. it is not some holier than though reason of wanting to be legitimate, it is that for me, earning more in a few hrs than i have earned in my entire play time since launch kills the game, and its very existence makes me feel like what is the point in doing anything. Why would a person courier data packets for pennies when they could just go and snag a few space opals?

the problem here is this is an online "MMO lite" which means for better or for worse what affects 1 affects all. if this was a single player game people could just mod their save (actually i did this in the original elite as well, and exactly the same again, i had everything, game was rubbish after that so i ended up scrapping it and starting from scratch - i cant remember how i did it, i think it was something to do with putting in codes in the copy protection screen but not sure).

so that is 2 out of 4 elite games i have totally ruined by getting all the toys and then having nothing to do. i really do not want to make it 3 out of 4.

Thinking about it, despite playing multiple ports of 4 elite games i have never been elite.... (pointless segue)

It's the same thing when I played Skyrim originally, I got stuck (I was rubbish), used a cheat so I was invulnerable, and ... lost all interest in the game lol. Only ever played it properly a few years ago when the special edition came out, and didnt cheat. Which reminds me, I never finished Fallout 4 either ...

I don't have that problem since I deliberately gimp myself to be true to my RP character. In Elite that means that I never fly large ships and always try to build them in a 'realistic' way. In other games like Skyrim for example I avoid all high level gear and only fit the iron gear. When I play Pillars of Eternity I don't go for a META build but try to create a character that interested me. I also don't use guides and walkthroughs, so sometimes my decisions aren't 'ideal'. That way it takes a lot longer until something gets boring. And I make sure to play less than 6 hours each week.

Rather they work on fixing minerals getting stuck inside the asteroid bits and causing limpets to suicide.

In the meantime just ram the asteroid parts with your ship. The will drift away a bit, just enough to release the stuck core deposits.

Well you don't actually need to just mine Void Opals.

Supposedly, there are many other new and old commodities available in the Deep Core roids. Though with typical FD "balancing", they've built it so that there's one thing that makes ridiculously more than every other activity. Why would someone bother to mine deep core roids for platinum when they pay less than 1/10th of void opals? Or even worse bertrandite paying 1/100th of void opals.

To influence the BGS by mining missions?
