Just completed my first run through the HD 61354 site tonight ... been putting it off for ages (“it’s so far” ... “it’ll be really hard” ...) but was inspired by this thread to just get on with it! First time I’d logged in to Elite for ages but I got my DBX out of storage, downgraded the shields to make room for 2 SRVs, stuck Point Defense turrets on the top and headed off on a 21 jump jaunt from V374 Pegasi.
First surprise .... 148,000LS SC trip at the other end! Oh well ... wasn’t too bad.
Landing near the site was tricky but I eventually managed to find a spot right next to one of the corners of the structure - very close indeed! I had an online map of the site but I couldn’t get my bearings for ages so I wound up driving around, shooting Destructible Panels for various McGuffins and trying to get a feel for the layout. Took me a while and only a couple of Sentinels popped up which weren’t too hard to deal with: heard my ships PD going off a few times to save me from the missiles but not always so I took a few spills.
Eventually realised I could drive up a really steep hill to get to the main pylons / relic drop point ... *doh*
Then did two runs of only shooting the pylons once before I realised you need to keep shooting ‘em until the blue light beam shines out the top into the sky ... *doh*
At that point, 4 sentinels turned up and it got a little hairy. Ran out of SRV ammo (luckily I had some synthesis ... I hadn’t checked beforehand!!) and got my hull dropped to 49% but managed to peg it back and release the data-orb thingy.
Now ... how to scan it ... awesome, not only are the controls on the SRV different to the ship but the GUI feedback on the fact that it’s scanning is different too! Eventually figured it out.
So ... now have 1x Module Blueprint, 54x Power Cells, 12x Power Conduits, 21x Tech Components Plus some scrap and sentinel weapon parts! Oh, and motion sickness ... I HATE THE SRV!!!!
Tomorrow I will be off to collect HN Whatsits and Focus Crystals to unlock the FSD Booster and and get my multi-role Krait to circa 42 LY. And my Combat ‘vette to around 30LY. Nice.![]()
I really fancy getting into the guardian tech dance . I have not seen the ruins yet. Does it work well in VR as I don't play on a screen at all for ed
Nice work @tolm - I found that shortcut too...after the event lol.
The FSD boost is really nice, I updated several of my ships - Cutter, Corvette and the DBX, though it doesn't make as much difference on the last one of course. What's good about it on the larger ships is that it means I can reverse some of the compromises I've made to the builds to have a certain minimum jump range, making them much more flexible. In the Cutter - in Cargo Hauler configuration - I'd made it a little lighter and subsequently lower-powered to keep a decent jump range. Now it's got a much better jump range but I've popped some heavier "A" Rated modules back in it...I've got so much spare power that I can just swap in bigger shields etc. for a combat build with ease.
With my Corvette, which is a Combat build, it's just nicer to hop around in with the extended jump range. It's just shy of 30ly laden and I think doing a little additional engineering (lightness) on a few modules should give me a sold 30ly minimum, which is really nice.
Oh, though I've not used it in an age, I even updated my FDL. I might actually start using that ship again now.
I did look at installing one in my Python too, though it compromises the 200 cargo capacity it currently has. When I was trading in it regularly - it replaced my Type 7 back in the day - having at least 180 cargo was essential. I've not actually used this ship in a while, though it's great for work that's medium pad limited. I was doing Ceos / Sothis Mining for a while last year.
My Anaconda is currently parked 500ly away and is configured for passenger runs. In its current role it has no need of the FSD booster, though I'll doubtless tinker with the build once it's back home.
Does anyone else have a ship they've found transformed by the FSD booster? Got to say, I'm pretty happy having just this one Module available to me, not overly incentivised to go after another BP just yet.
Scoob.
I will be using one in a Krait mk2 for exploration.

Yeh - in two minds whether to lightweight the Krait for exploring or go with a heavier but still “long distance” trader/mission runner ... might have to buy a second one!!!

I now have two .... one ready for exploration at Q4, the other a fighter/trader/etc.
I intend to have not a complete lightweight build as I like to go exploring armed. I can get around 45-50ly with a fully armed and SLF build for my krait which I will use for exploration. That jump range is easily good enough for me.
Would you mind sharing your build? I had to drop the C3 weapons to get my Krait up to that sort of range but if there’s some other options I might try ‘em out!!
This is what I intend to take. It's a work in progress and I may take stronger shields. I am undecided.

It's ok ... the grind complainers want every mod and weapon at once
If only there were a game where you could get paid for your goods and services with money, and receive goods and services for money in return, so that everyone could play how they want and not be railroaded into any particular grind.
Oh wait, such a game existed not too long ago. It was called Elite Dangerous before Horizons...
