Parks Ocean World

Hey guys, I was gonna have a bit of a break but I just couldn't! I had built a coaster in a tropical park in the midst of creating Hydra Lake, and I opened that back up and a whole heap of ideas came to my theme parkey brain. This park is a homage to a beloved park in Aus called Sea World, and has some reimagined rides and completely new stuff as well.

Sea World was the first theme park I ever went to, and so has a special place in my memory... the mixture of fear, excitement and wonder has always stuck with me. Since then rides have closed and gone and I've always wondered how I would recreate them, and now Planet Coaster has let me do that.

I'm not sure how long it'll take but it is a smaller park. Hopefully not too long!

1pZVb7o.jpg

So this is the beginnings of Ocean World. It'll have four areas... thought it'd be easier just to mark it out on the overview! Sorry about the saturation... not sure what happened.

0DPkrAF.jpg

Here's a view without the markings.

YTCVI2C.jpg

The centrepiece of Ocean World, Bermuda Adventure, is a recreation/re-imagination of the now defunct Bermuda Triangle ride at Sea World, which sent scientific research 'probes' (or boats) through an 'active' volcano, discovering the mysteries of the Bermuda Triangle on the way.

NySzzzO.jpg

My recreation takes it as inspiration but is a little different.

HK9cAaS.jpg

Explorers will begin their journey as they ascend into the research centre established next to what they thought was a dormant, but anomalous volcano. As you can see, the volcano wasn't as dormant as expected.

3T7oB82.jpg

After experiencing some anomalies in the building, they plunge deep into the earth, searching out the source of the strange happenings.

jcPDy9I.jpg

I don't want to give away too much of what's in there.

C1hufa7.jpg

But it definitely involves fire!

F8sLEX8.jpg

0hsByPA.jpg

Seabeast was a diversion while I was making Hydra Lake. A big floorless coaster. I guess you could say the inspiration was from Kraken at SeaWorld in the US.

h5D6x5T.jpg

A nice steep drop.

VIXuzuW.jpg

A lot of interaction with the landscape.

q6bFvAe.jpg

A double zero-g.

zjgUWCV.jpg

A lot of sweeping turns.

Stay tuned for more!

Thanks wowman!

Just a bit more of an update... I'll be away for the next week or so I'll just do an overview of what I'm planning.

1jQITDc.jpg

First up is a pelican coaster! Very cute!

Ge041cA.jpg

The first half has big, sweeping dives. Well big for a family coaster.

vLNQtc2.jpg

It's a tricky coaster to get right. I think it's easier if you have big turns and gradual slopes but I decided to make it hard for myself.

47s92bl.jpg

Overview.

M1rgRx1.jpg

The entrance will connect in with the shorefront area near the ferris wheel, which I think I'm still counting as the entrance area.

7AEDL0i.jpg

Next up is the beginnings of the 'Beasts of the Oceans' area.

k2hcxNS.jpg

So I've made a crude first attempt at making something out of those shapes... definitely not my forte, bit I think it gets the job done and he's kinda cute.

MTRwFel.jpg

Obviously, the ride will be called Hammerhead.

qEDYMzD.jpg

This area will have lots of bright, oceany colours amongst some coral-y rockwork.

ur1ZERJ.jpg

The next area will be a pier-type area.

cDxW6iX.jpg

I want the architecture to be based off the town of Seaside in Florida... seen in The Truman Show.

x0nT2mp.jpg

The coaster is an Intamin Megalite.

6rrVPrK.jpg

It's supposed to be totally white, but unfortunately it comes out as a bit grey.

CaKA6KD.jpg

And I wasn't planning on putting one of these coasters in the park... not sure of the reason why... I may have an aversion to Vekomas, but as I was playing around with the coaster type I realised it kind of had a steam-punk look, and I was contemplating doing a steampunk pirate area... so it sealed the deal. And they're just so spectacular and beautiful to look at.

6h5qvW5.jpg

It'll probably run through a wrecked ship or something piratey like that.

6OqfKCK.jpg

And lastly just showing some scenes from Bermuda Adventure because no collision means it looks so much more natural and cool!

Another update in a week or so!

Yay, a new MARK project! Take your time, though. I'm not quite through assimilating all your ideas from Hydra Lake ;) But I see you're off to a good start here. Really nifty hammerhead there, amongst many other things.

Some pretty sweet landscaping. That shark made me laugh haha, brilliant. Looking forward to the steampunk pirates[yesnod].

Ha ha laugh? He's supposed to invoke fear and terror! Lol I'm happy with that... it is a theme park after all. [big grin]

Here's some Steampunk Pirates for you! It looks like it's gonna be an interesting challenge... The pirate aesthetic is very wood and steam punk is very steel, so it's gonna be important to have a mixture of both and make it make sense. It's very early days yet! Sorry if it's frustrating that I go from one thing to another... it seems that just how I work. If I'm thinking about everything at once I feel it comes together as a whole a lot better for me.

u6lIOKT.jpg

First, there's the obligatory ship. Pardon the building shadow in the middle of it... I always forget to click done!

EbqibHF.jpg

I'll probably add more to it in the future, but I don't want it to look too cluttered.

iz8KX05.jpg

And I've worked on the Giant Inverted Boomerang.

RAl8ai9.jpg

The Banana Roll has got a support structure now. It surprised me how easy it was to build... Planet Coaster keeps on surprising me.

IqLqev0.jpg

I've recycled a name and theme from one of my parks that I killed by overwriting the file [cry]... Boatyard Bedlam. Still not decided on the name though, because of it's intimidating size the name kinda feels too light-hearted for it. But I also kinda like the idea of a coaster with a fun unassuming name but that's a real beast of a ride.

rpqtLvV.jpg

As the name suggests, the coaster is themed to a pirate boatyard.

tTh3gI1.jpg

This is where I realised it was going to be important to make both the pirate and steampunk come through and blend. At the moment it still looks a bit like two themes mashed together.

qN6OsNG.jpg

The area from across the lake.

Those coaster supports are da bomb!

I see what you mean about needing to punk-out the pirate stuff more, or pirate-out the punk a bit. Maybe add some paddlewheels to the galleons?

Ha ha I like that! Punk-out the pirate and pirate-out the punk. Yeah good idea... I might have to do a bit of googling. There's gonna be a dueling RMC back there too, so that'll help to add to the wood/steel look.

And speaking of going from one thing to the other... I spent the last couple of hours building up the Beasts of the Sea area. Can I just say again how much I adore this game? I got the look I wanted and more.

YkOl64Y.jpg

This corner of the park has now materialised.

zKVRoLQ.jpg

As the name suggests, all the rides in the area are based on sea animals.

Nd5bxEh.jpg

It's got a colourful, fun, rocky garden look. It's heavily inspired by the aesthetic of the Sea World parks in America

Snu2ehc.jpg

The first ride is Rockpool Rascals. For the kiddies.

o4jS6hv.jpg

As you're walking through, the flying coaster is quite imposing, and there are some nice views and interactions. IMO anyway.

TFfU71F.jpg

The roll goes over the train queue.

MYqQWJZ.jpg

Another look at our funny hammerheaded friend.

iwxRLCv.jpg

The cave entrance to the flying coaster, which I'm pretty sure I'm gonna call Eagle Ray. Haven't figured out what i'm gonna do with the front half of the queue... if I cover it with a building, that ruins the vista, but it also could be nice for guests to walk through and discover the little grotto.

lCXH4XN.jpg

Here's the layout. I haven't looked if kids can go on these types, but I kind of class it as more of a family flying coaster. It's only about 80ft tall.

JqVX9kG.jpg

The layout features a signature drop into a cave under the entrance of the area. I was thinking of calling it Electric Ray and putting some electricity effects down there.

GEFEvOW.jpg

This area will have a water effect.

hXJ2nyd.jpg

At the finale the train dives under the railway.

88D3yje.jpg

And the last ride to show is the Rocktopus. I think I might just call it Octopus.

lkp81pP.jpg

And finally some overviews.

Z9Em7SR.jpg

Very nice :). I'm assuming that all the sea beast coasters must include the "sea serpent" element? :)

On the queue for the flying coaster, maybe make a seaweed-thatched hut? Only dilapidated, as in having gaps in the seaweed so you can see through it to the hill behind, and the hut itself blends in with the background.

Thanks guys!

Anth8... yeah, I have to remember to restrain myself and make it appeal to families as well as thrill seekers... so often a big, intense dive looks so good, even on a kiddie coaster! lol.

Well after many a test run, I have completed what will be my Steampunk Pirate dueling RMCs. I thought I could just call it Duel, because that's pirate-y... but I think I could probably do better than that. Again, I went into this thinking it was gonna be a pain in the butt (making dueling coasters was a pain in RCT), but once again, Planet Coaster is a joy.

hRDx9Ns.jpg

Welcome to my first go at an RMC. Or two.

C7eKv0q.jpg

The coaster is set in a spare ravine Ocean World had lying around.

fg68oyg.jpg

At the start of making the park, I had this image in my head of an RMC built into the ground.

JezPkYB.jpg

And the rest is very recent history.

AK5jnZR.jpg

The trains start by curling out down smaller curved dives.

YqJOooK.jpg

And enter quick fly-by airtime hills.

pjhHwth.jpg

And then make the rest of the way down into the rivine in more intense diving turns.

qBW8wjG.jpg

Then the second encounter. The green track makes three inversions throughout the course, whereas the yellow track doesn't invert, but has more airtime.

grUZKc6.jpg

A second dive into the ravine.

nK8S7Nc.jpg

And the third, and probably signature encounter of the ride. The green track slows down a bit and riders get a bit of hangtime while yellow track catches up.

fXdxQfN.jpg

Then the fourth encounter.

KjsGzb2.jpg

The fifth.

baptjJr.jpg

Then a race to the finish where it seems like yellow has taken it.

iHJSd2O.jpg

But green, green catches up. Green's been here before.

5qV8F8X.jpg

Layout shot.

OePlfUx.jpg

Rare afternoon shot.

Now onto theming.... and a few custom supports where it needs it... *shudder*

Looks cool. These RMCs have such a distinctive look, like briar bushes or perhaps zippers.

I haven't messed with the new synched coaster thing. So you have 2 coasters of the same type and very similar stats. Is there some mechanism that ensures they both get an even number of peeps? Or does chaining the rides together, so 1 exits into the entrance of the other, work here? (I know chaining doesn't work otherwise).

Yeah they're what I would call beautifully chaotic.

I'm not quite sure yet either, have only tested them thus far. I'm pretty sure you can't chain them or make a mobius loop. It has to be two separate coasters.

So another little update... I knew I wanted a big skull somewhere, and I made one. But I thought how can I make this Steampunk? Ah! Goggles will do!

HDxFaLt.jpg

The train goes through the cavern... I'm thinking this will be the 'hideout'.

s2jB1k4.jpg

For some reason, the light I was placing decided to shine up on it, even when it wasn't deep in the ground. Which is great because it goes against the sunlight, and would have been really dark in the afternoon.

gsC2xa4.jpg

The water is a bit murkier because it's only a small lagoon.

HnJNbP4.jpg

The beginnings of a lookout structure.

Doc23PP.jpg

Overview of the area.

Hahahah, that's totally cool! Guess some ill-conceived experiment blew up in his face, but at least the goggles mean he can be an eye donor :D. Maybe that's what you should call this statue :)

Bullethead: Captain Eye Donor I think!

Netaro: Thanks! Although I feel it's more addiction than dedication. [wacky]

A bigger update today... the park is beginning to come together and will hopefully be done by the end of May. Unfortunately I'm a Mac user and I've been using my roommate/friend's beast of a computer and we'll be parting ways so I won't be able to play until I get a PC of my own :(. Don't know when that will be.

oGVU996.jpg

The pirate area is developing.

4rfdmuE.jpg

Some punky hot air balloons, and a chugging dirt digger for the boatyard.

fJmc8sU.jpg

Added some propellors to the ship being built.

HdrCw8T.jpg

Tree-ing in the place for immersion.

luUU1dD.jpg

Having a go at punking out the swinging ship ride.

8VSc5j4.jpg

iOTrVbm.jpg

Over the train line toward Duel.

V0CNQ4W.jpg

Green's queue leads under the cliff.

1sxFqKC.jpg

uPRMnyG.jpg

And yellow's goes over the stations.

vcOmwt6.jpg

More vegetation.

XAkdhLV.jpg

A ready-made steampunk flat. Makes it easier for me! Dunno what the concept of this one will be. Perhaps some crazy Captain's interrogation device.

YfUnnug.jpg

This little show fits into the steampunk vibe I feel... mechanised performers!

JHn5mnn.jpg

And the log flume for the park!

DQs35B8.jpg

This time with a run-of-the-mill skull.

xb5EBBq.jpg

The lift will lead up to a wood/steel lookout tower thingy, and there'll be a steel bridge structure holding the flume on either end between the tower and the mountain. Inside the mountain will also have a few scenes.

sqNlTjQ.jpg

Now onto the science and research area of the park. It's name will probably have 'discovery' in it.

2bBgm5Y.jpg

Raised area that will have some shops etc.

ByuHIgz.jpg

Three flat rides for the area... the enterprise will be called Venturer and is themed to submarines. This theme is taken from Australia's Dreamworld now defunct Enterprise called Reef Diver. The Troika will be called Diver and the plane thingy will be called Storm Fighter... themed to cloud seeding and weather control.

mwYyRCY.jpg

The station complex for Bermuda Adventure is materialising

UDOn1Oy.jpg

Hydra Lake was really a learning park for me, so it's become a lot easier to build interesting buildings this time around. You eventually develop strategies.

m2vV1yt.jpg

The roof top will be a mezzanine with a restaurant and viewing area.

YZGYtZM.jpg

Seabeast has got an entrance.

YkCQCw0.jpg

And some more treeing over here too.

PAK382L.jpg

"Ahhh!" the water test dummies screamed.

HCMBoBd.jpg

Overview of the park.
