I'm really hoping Frontier prepares for Dash and Touch in a VR QoL sprint. Oculus says Dash will introduce a new state called "Dash Active", in which Oculus recommends suspending input (but it's not a requirement?), meaning that we could switch Dash on or off as we please. However, is there currently any way to map a HOTAS button to the Oculus Universal Menu (or Dash)? Just like you can recenter your VR view, a Dash button mapping in Elite would be nice or even necessary.
Dash performance might actually impact some on minspec or high quality settings, and I don't like the sound of having Dash up and overlaying the game, but suddenly being thrown out into the Dash "void" because Oculus thought the framerate was too low. This really needs to be properly coordinated between Oculus and developers I think... Unless there is already some option to drop Dash if framerates suffer instead of going to void.
Anyway I think Dash is the best news for Elite in VR for a long time. Noone has the resources like Oculus to implement a working overlay and it sounds like they've solved it for the most part. Additionally, in new updates for Elite, the demand for external information will be diminshed if the plan is to integrate more market data into the game.
Sidenote: Having proper Touch/Vive support in Elite would also be intruiging. For me personally, I don't have space or priorities to have HOTAS out dominating the living room at all times, so the more frequent and casual play is done with an Xbox controller. The Touch controllers I find much more comfortable and potentially replaces a HOTAS and mouse/xbox controller combo. Simply having Touch laser pointers to select in any menu would solve so much in one fell swoop.
