Oculus debug tool, ASW

So I'm still using the Oculus debug tool for ppi override. I got it into my head a while back that it was more effective than setting in game. (Still set said in game, but not hmd quality)

My question is around asw, what do people usually set it at and why? I ask because I was playing around with "asw enabled, force 45 fps" and it looked decent but I'm wondering if asw on/off/auto is best.

I mostly recommend default settings unless you find precise reasons to change.
So for ASW in elite I use the auto setting.
Some do experience issues with ASW triggering and untriggering where it's a good idea to either force it on or force off depending on hardware and how often you dip below native 90fps.

As for doing the switching I recommend the oculus tray tool as he easier option.

It sets all these flags same way as the debug tool would.
But just runs quietly in your taskbar and sets supersampling or ASW mode etc on a per game basis.

No more need to manually start the debug tool and change settings ;)

oh, much more handy, thanks! Still curious why 45 fps would look pretty good when vr is supposed to shoot for 90. Is there a way to lock it at 60 or any other frame rate instead? I thought I saw a setting in elite for that, would vr respect that?

No VR does not respect any of the vsync or frame limiters, and you wouldn't want them either.
Fluidity is the key, and the purpose of ASW is that it generates a interim frame taking account for motion data minor hedtracking movement and yes, you do ever so slightly even when sitting down, and keeping track of these is part of what makes VR seem 'real'.

What it does in a nutshell is if you start loosing enough frame the VR service tells the game to only render 45 fps, and the service creates motion interpolated frames for each and sends 90 to the HMD.

45 fps with interpolation does feel better than 60, trust me.
