Hey guys,
can anyone share where that file is to be found exactly I think that would be welcomed info for some of us. not simple to find it if you do not know where it is.
Thanks for the workaround in advance. (if I can find the file)
I'm new to oculus rift, just got it last sunday! My oculus is working and I have tried to edit those files mentioned above and nothings made the oculus version of elite load in VR. No option for HMD and the splash screen in the VR headset just says loading!

I followed your advice SimonNQ and had a look at an August 2018 copy of the 'frontier-developments-plc-elite-dangerous.json.mini' file that I had saved. My current Oculus app version is 1.33.0.750915. The CURRENT version of the file has the following 3 lines towards the bottom of the file:
"launchParameters": "ED",
"launchFile2D": "ORID.exe",
"launchParameters2D": "ED",
I substituted the above 3 lines with the 3 corresponding 3 lines from my August copy of the file - which I know was working at the time:
"launchParameters": "ED /vr /autoquit",
"launchFile2D": "ORID.exe",
"launchParameters2D": "ED /novr",
Once I had done this and restarted my PC, clicking on the Elite Dangerous app icon in the Oculus Home screen library launched the VR Elite version, bypassing the Frontier load screen.
Similarly, clicking on 'Start in desktop mode' bought up the Frontier load screen and clicking on this loaded Elite in Desktop mode.
I know nothing about coding and SimonNQ did all the brain work - I just followed the clues and struck lucky.
Goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway, back up any files your going to tinker with and remember, it worked for me but it may not for you.
This has been fixed by the 3.3.01 update.

I heard back from Oculus during the night. This is what they recommend.
Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us here at Oculus Support.
I'd like to help you with getting Elite Dangerous working.
Are you being prompted to update but are unable to do so, or have you not received the update at all?
In either case, please try uninstalling Elite Dangerous and installing it again. This should ensure that you're using the latest version of the software.
Please let me know how that works out for you,
Jayce

My reaction
Nah ..that’s last resort stuff, and anyway I wouldn’t actually know how to do that ? Would I do it via oculus or my frontier account.
I’m too old for this stuff [haha]
Found the .json file, put in the different text, tried to save , it says I don’t have permissions, despite changing the perms in properties. How do I save it Cmdrs ?
Edit.
Managed that after a struggle, it opened the launcher, but the upgrade panel is grayed out, trying other options
Edit 2.
In desperation.i went to my account in frontier, downloaded an earlier beta launcher, installed it , and I write it’s syncing files. At the moment I have no reason to believe this won’t work ...here’s hoping
Edit 3.
Very relieved to say this method worked. Just follow the steps in edit 2. If you happen to have an old dated beta launcher you’re sorted, mine was dated 03/2017 , just download it, install, then upgrade I did all that then rebooted after the installation. I found editing the json files not effective.
It starts the game in 2d , I just need to turn on the ingame settings to suit the rift , when I know it’s stable .
