Oculus Key

I've been a proud CV1 owner since Friday and can't get enough.

I was wondering if it's useful to get the key to import Elite into the Oculus Library.

I didn't do that with Steam because I imported it as a non-Steam game so all profits would go to Frontier.

Would launching from Oculus home use VR settings and launching from the desktop keep normal settings?

Just curious what other CMDRs have done.

I added the key but it seems to make me redownload again which I'd rather not do.

Yeah, technically the Steam and regular versions of ED are two different installations.

They don't share the same settings or control setups (but you can copy the relevant files between the two so they are the same).

I launch ED just from the regular launcher; it opens Oculus Home and launches just fine.

The steam key is free for all original backers and buyers of the game from Frintier's website. So even if you have the steam key or launch it from Steam, the money has still gone to Frontier. Only by buying any Elite or other FD product from Steam are you giving anything away to Valve/Gabe Newell etc.

I wouldn't get the key if I were you. Basically it will require a complete new installation of ED within the Oculus software folder. If you want to sometimes play ED in Oculus and sometimes outside of Oculus then you'll need to maintain (i.e. keep updating) both copies.

Just continue to run ED from it's standard desktop shortcut (which will then start Oculus Home and open ED in VR if the VR/3D graphics settings specify "HMD").

I can heartily recommend Dr Kaii's EDProfiler tool if you sometimes want to run ED in Oculus and sometimes on the monitor (I swap backwards and forwards all the time using this).

Thanks for the feedback guys. Yea I'll just launch as normal. I just wish there was a way to say "I already own this" in the Oculus Store.

I'll try the profiler. That looks awesome.

FYI avoid taking Multiplayer games from the OCULUS HOME, you might find yourself playing alone. I heard that with Elite is not the case, but better not risk.
I took Project cars, finding that they were no Servers online, I was lucky that I was refunded. Then bought it on steam and there was tons of servers.

Is up to you.

Also when installing via oculus you are loading it into that library, so if you like me have oculus software installed on my system ssd, that has very limited space.

And since ED's regular install also works just fine with the rift is choose to save my ssd from those 12+ GB.
Especially since ED is one of those games that keep logs so the game directory grow as you play.
