Oculus Order Update 12th April

I've just received the promised email from Oculus that updates my shipping date based on the so called 'component shortage' (or whatever it ACTUALLY is). My date has moved from April/May to late June/early July
They actually expect to run a company this way do they? I'm very very annoyed.
Anyone else?

I haven't got my email yet... that doesn't bode well. My delivery date was slated for July... I'm probably going to end up in August or September. *cries*

The component shortage is probably the lenses, since they're likely to be the hardest component to get in quantity. The plastics, electronics etc can all be handled by various companies, but the lenses and probably the slowest part to produce.

Disappointing. I agree with Cornelius - it just gives me more time to save for a 980Ti or Pascal etc based card if they make it out before my Rift arrives.

Also received mine this morning, originally scheduled for May and has been put back to end of June early July

was april, now moved to end of may. a bit disappointing, but good on them for the free shipping (that won't have been cheap).

also most of the stuff i want to play is still in the process of upgrading to 1.3 anyway.

i haven't looked but i imagine the internet is current freaking out like a bunch of 5 year olds?

I had an 30 order number with April shipping batch. Now it is May 23rd to June 2nd.
I just bought a Vive from a guy who doesn't want to keep it. Should be here before the weekend. :)
Oculus can keep their Rift!

Same as mine but only changed by 3 weeks but this is something I didn't expect when ordering bad business really as some have been really put out time wise

Put out how? An entirely unnecessary and extravagant toy arrives late - shrug, then get a Vive like Thoemse, or wait! ;)

I ordered within 45 mins of pre-orders opening (as payment kept erroring out), but now 23rd May - 2nd June. Only slightly irritating, as I've had a DK2 (currently being auctioned on eBay) for 18 months, so a VR break I can easily accommodate. Plus as others have said above we have free shipping, so not too fussed.

Was May, now June 20-30. Bit disappointing given that I ordered on launch day but at least the next-gen cards won't be out by then. Free shipping is nice, every little helps.

So, mine will arrive in the first halve of June which fits perfectly with the launch of ED:H 2.1. Why would I start to play Elite again without both novelties available anyway?

In all seriousness, though, this is a bit of a bummer. On the other hand, I waited 6 month for my MFG 'crosswind' rudder pedal and the moment they arrived was even sweeter!
Enjoy your postponed gratification, guys! Pleasant anticipation is the best part of life anyway (according to some philosophers) as the final event can dissappoint, but in your anticipation everything is always perfect! :)

OK, finally got my email (they must go out in order too it seems lol)

I slipped from a "July" shipping date to 25 July - 04 August. Still a long wait.
Seems like most have slipped by 3-4 weeks.

Surely by then they would have additional contractors with moulds/whatever tooled up and ready to go.

The Oculus software can only get better during that time, there may be other small improvements on the construction line (including speeeed).
If I were Palmer, I'd be throwing FB money at getting Rifts made - this is his ONE chance to get a launch right or forever be a back-seat VR hardware builder. He can be the nVidia or intel, not the AMD.

Still, he's only 22 (credit due there).

Delayed from May to mid June.

Bit gutted because i've just got Combat Elite, and tooled up an AspX to go out in the black.
Been holding off landing on planets and driving the SRV until the CV1 arrives (so i have something new)... Looks like smuggling for a while...

Thanks for this, it really helps.

Apologies, just find it a bit weird people getting so riled about it - it's just a toy!

What can you do? Your choices are to cancel and get a Vive, wait, or buy a CV1 for a silly price on fleabay or the like... there's not really much "help" anyone can offer.

I am at most mildly disappointed that my delivery is now a few weeks later than initially planned.

You know what? I'd rather wait and get a product that they are happy with than one that uses sub standard parts but meets delivery dates.

This is all part of being an early adopter of new tech, they have not done this before.

Besides, the DK2 is still going strong.

Not much choice waiting it is as the vive isn't for me but there are people that are put out. And entirely unnecessary and extravagant it might be to you but not others I'm sure. Myself I can wait have the Dk2 to tide me over

If people have a medical need for it then Oculus might be sympathetic and bump them up the queue - they should try emailing them with their condition. ;)

Yeah, just being tongue in cheek - it is unfortunate that there are delays, I won't say it's a good thing (of course) but just looking for a little perspective, you know?

Mine's getting delivered tomorrow so I admit that it's very easy for me to criticise but I honestly wouldn't have been bothered by a delay - there's plenty bigger things to worry about.
